Featured Replies

hi people, just got my first fabia vrs and loving it got a list of things i plan to do to it so will be posting quite alot on here i think, was just wondering if there is any way you can tell if my car has been remapped or not does seem quick done a quick timed 0-60 with a stopwatch and done it in 7.9 sec prob could do better with practice, would this be an indicator that its been remapped??? iv no know the real way is too have it remapped and see just thought you guys would be able to tell me easy way of telling. reply s really appreciated, thanks, ps sorry for any spelling mistakes im dyslexic.

The BLT engined cars tend to stick out 150BHP as standard, so it's hard to tell. The earlier ASZ engines tend to be about 137BHP but it depends on the mileage the engine has done. BHP drops off as cam lobes and injectors wear.

Good maps smooth out the torque curve, and you get more grunt for longer across the rev range. So if all the power seems to come between 2-3K and then drops off (meaning you have to short shift) it's likely the car is standard.

Only way to be sure, is a rolling road session and get a print out of the BHP and Torque curves.

If your engine is fairly flat before 2k revs, then you hit 2k revs and the turbo is pulling like hell then dies again at about 3500k revs the chances are it hasn't been remapped. When you put your foot down GENERALLY remapped cars pull nice and smoothly without any crazy torque spikes.

Hope that's of some use to you

thanks guys, from what you have said i think its standard its a 54 plate done 110k, power comes in hard at about 1900 rpm to about 2900 rpm then drops off, do see a little puff of black smoke in the rear view mirror when the turbo cuts in at 1900 rpm is this normal??? thanks.

Yep, pretty much every diesel will throw out a some smoke when you boot it. Aslong as it's not a crazy amount (like mine) you should be fine, the smoke is unburnt fuel BTW.
