Hill Descent on Scout Face Lift

Featured Replies

Hi mates...

well, since I saw a vid of how the Hill Descent works on the Yeti I´m thinking if could be possible to activate it in the Scout Face Life, cause both share parts as Haldex 4th gen.

I don´t know if this is something that could be activated maybe with VAG-COM changeing some config and installing a button in the console like Yeti´s the Off-road mode.

I think that could be interesting to investigate a little bit to see if is there any option to do it.

;)

Regards from Spain.

David.

Hi again... :)

winter is every week closer and I would like to take again this topic, where I live I have some steeped descents and with snow they are a bit complicated... anyone has an idea about this? Maybe I have to answer in the Yeti discusions if somebody with VAG-COM has found where the Hill Descent config is...

Just put it in 1st and don't touch the peddles once the clutch is up, you should be able to descend a 1 in 4 hill at no more than 10 MPH

should the car start sliding just quickly blip the accelerator, this brings it back into line

Hill descent is a pretty complex piece of programming - it involves more than just the Haldex so I don't think it is latently present on the Scout. I agree with the previous poster about first gear letting the engine control descent rate.

Go and try it in the wet or dry then you will have the confidence to do it when there is snow and ice about

I hope the steep hill ain't too steep or long, as I've had mine in 1'st on a very very downhill slope a few weeks ago and descent speed went to over 50 km/h, on 5K+ rpm :)

Now seriously, last winter had a few extreme slopes with winter tires and with the feather-light gentle breaking on first gear, I didn't miss a beat or risk a too fast descent.

I´ll try it in dry in 1st. I have to check how steep is. I´ve installed in my iPhone an inclinometer... :)

I found our Scout fine in the snow by leaving it in first, OBVIOUSLY it isnt a licence to throw the car down any slope with no fear, if its really steep no amount of technology can ensure you will never slide. The weak link is the tyres, if they loose grip you are in trouble. I managed on the std summer tyres last year & made sure on steep decents & ascents I had a lot of room to "wander" just in case but kept speeds low & never really got into trouble. With winter tyres I would have thought the car is more than capable of anything you will attempt but again they have their limits.

Thanks for all your answers... I bought a few weeks ago a 16" Crateris wheelset from another Octavia and I´m going to buy this wheek a set of Yokohama Geolandar AT-S or HT-S in 215/60 R16. That´s going to help for sure on snow or mud... but I would like to investigate a bit more about the Off Road function of the Yeti... :)

A friend of mine suggest me to check the ABS module codification. He gave me this info from a 2011 Tiguan:

I´ll try to get this info from some mate of the Yeti thread... :)
