I have no experience of those, but we have a Dragon Digital box on SWMBO's MK5 PD105 Golf and it made a huge difference, BUT it wasn't anywhere near that much! (£50ish IIRC)

For that sort of money you are better off getting in on the Shark Performance remap group buy if you join freedom as well then you will save ANOTHER 10% as well .

So £350 for a tuning box or

£314 (+ £14 to join freedom) for a proper remap with free a STS (self tuning system - meaning the remap can be done on your drive)

No brainer to me.

I have a Dragon tuning box on a Seat Toledo 1.9TDI 110hp which i bought off EBAY for £99 , it made a world of difference its giving around 140hp and improved the economy , car has done over 60k miles with it and has given no problems apart from a bit of black smoke on heavy acceleration , but at the prices your talking about i would go for a remap everytime . I have the Shark remap on my VRS and its very smooth and punchy with only a small drop in economy .

remap is better value !!!! and in the unlikely event that you do not declare this to your insurance company of the increased bhp there wouldnt be a box obviously attached to car ........ but I still would say tell them to be safe in the long run!

Try Adrian Flux. My premium is less with them, all mods declared including stage 1 map and CAI - and this will not increase when I go to sage 2 either - than it was last year with Privilege with no mods declared!

Just to echo what has already been said re tuning box, step away at that price, the Shark group buy is a no brainer, if its any help to your decision making, I am considering paying up front for a remap and STS for a car I haven't even got yet!

Ye Gods - that's supposed to be the cheap & cheerful option for a bit more poke....

I can only echo the comments above. Get it done properly, and more cheaply - for a better, more powerful result

(though insurance premiums are a concern....).

That would also need to be considered when looking at the tuning box. My premium rose £60 when I renewed and fitted my remap and other mods with Admiral.

I've had alot of remaps over the years on all sorts of different cars and I would rather get a remap from a specialist company rather than a tuning box which isn't setup properly to run on your car.
