Fabia 1.4 Greenline fuel economy.

Featured Replies

New to this so forgive me if I make a few mistakes.

Bought a Fabia 'Greenline' 1.4 with DPF approximately 14 months ago.

Fuel economy (around the 50 mpg mark) was not what I had been lead to expect, but felt that it might just improve.

It didn't !

Have contacted the dealer who took the car in and ran his checks. No problems found and no recalls against the vehicle; told me he could do nothing !

He saw that the overall fuel economy indicated on the vehicle computer indicated over 63 mpg, he suggested that this was inaccurate on all Skoda vehicles and should be ignored. The dealer suggested that the overall fuel economy indicated on the computer is not representative of the actual fuel economy. Find it a little difficult to get my head around that, if it's not representative of the actual fuel economy what does it represent ?

Took my complaint to Skoda customer services, they suggested that I took the car to another dealer for another opinion. Since the other dealer would simply do the same tests that my dealer did, I suggested that this was a waste of time, it was simply a stalling technique. Anyway they suggested that I carry out an experiment of filling the car three times and recording the mileage between fill ups and the reserve light coming on. The figures from this experiment suggested (again) around the 50-51 mpg mark. I'm waiting for a Skoda Engineer to ring me and suggest their next stalling technique - I'll not hold my breath though !

My questions:

1) Anyone else out there with the same (awful fuel consumption) problem ?

2) Anyone else out there getting the same run around from Skoda customer services in the UK ?

3) Anyone else out there who knows how to get Skoda UK interested in their vehicle problem ?

Almost forgot, I've driven Diesels for 25 years and most of my journeys are reasonably long ones on trunk roads and Motorways.

I'm well aware of (and put into practice) most of the techniques for getting the best fuel economy out of both petrol and diesel engines.

Mk1 or 2 ??
