Yet another problem with my VRS :(

Featured Replies

Ok, so I had just driven into a parking space, and upon returning, took the hand brake off, put my car into Reverse (as one does) and gently pressed the throttle to just over 1000 revs. Nothing happened. Zilch. So I put my foot on the brake, and then started again, gently pressing the throttle. again, nothing :(. So I pressed a little harder, and it didn`t gently pull away, it burst into life with a solid jerk motion.

Later the same day, I was reverse parking, and without touching the accelerator released the brake gently, the car then leapt backwards almost like i had stabbed the accelerator this happened each time i released the foot brake, reminding me of a Harley Davidsons "pop-pop" sound. My car was popcorning backwards!

Is this remenicent of the DSG issue or something more sinister?

On top of this, I have to almost floor the accelerator to pull away once i`m at a complete stop. Hardly what you could call safe!

I`ve taken to my dealer who says there is nothing wrong with it and its a "characteristic of the car" for me to "get used to".

Suffice to say I will be taking it back, and they will NOT be blaming the guy who adapted it for my disability, thats just lazy.

Any ideas?

sounds like a problem, if I engage reverse on mine and just release the brake (no throttle) I will creep out of a carpark space (or even up my drive!) without any issue.....

Mine to, just a light touch on the pedal and it will gently pull away. Did they take the car for a test drive?

You do remember to respect the hill hold ? it doesnt need to be a big uphill for it to engage, and that takes couple of seconds before it relases the car.

So basically if ur even a little bit not on steady ground u would press gas, and it would put revs up to 1000 and not move untill hill hold releases and whoom there u go.

I also had that moment where i tought my reverse is broken, but it was my first automatic and i noticed that P doesnt mean Pakki (which is reverse in Finnish) but park ;)

Not saying u screwed up also.

But the hill hold is so sensitive that it doesnt need a hill.

+ The fabia rs gas is extremely sensitive and adds turbo instantly i usually dont touch the gas when going backwards because you dont need to. But if u do do it really gently

HHC seems to work intermittantly for me. on a steep hill, I will roll back, yet on a almost flat serface, it will refuse to move. this seems to happen in correlation with how hard you press the brake pedal.

The dealer is flatly refusing to beleive its a problem with my car, instead blaming it squarely on the person who did my adaptations for my disability. Apparently, because he was wiring stuff in the (bear with me, I have no idea what this actually is) CAMBUS, it must be his fault. My adaptation guy has advised me that to do what he needed to do, he didn't go anywhere near the CAMBUS.

I'm assuming the CAMBUS is something to do with the ECU? Would it house cotrols for windscreen wipers, lights and the like?

At this present time, despite being a very loyal and happy Skoda customer, their distinct lack of care is quite upsetting. They have provided no evidence that it was what my guy did to the car, So I feel atm its just a get out. I just want my car to be safe and fixed. Too much to ask?

I guess they mean CANBUS - which is basically the software that runs all the different ECU's on the car.

Obviously I dont know the work you had done to the car (or by who), but its not surprising that the Skoda dealer will blame them first.

Surely your first port of call are the people that adapted the car (I would want to know if they have ever done a VRS before, or minimum a DSG car) and find out exactly what they did.

Once you can establish through them that what they did could not possibly affect the DSG then you can go to Skoda with that information and perhaps they will be more willing to help.

Sounds like you are stuck between a rock and a hard place. The guy who adapted your car, what did he actually have to do for your disability? If you don't mind telling us we can maybe work it out?

The Green demo car they had was great, worked fine so I can understand why the dealer thinks there is no issue. They are normally excellent with regards to after care etc. Take either John or Lee out on a test drive, granted, it probably won't do it for them but worth a shot.

If your car has been adapted and now the car has a problem you may be stuffed, although the guy who did the work for you says he did'nt go near the canbus, he has played with the electrics so skoda will not honour your warranty on that particular area were the guy did the adaptations to the vehicle , and if they can show that this may be the issue you've got no leg to stand on (no pun intended)
