S3 Front Console Bushes fitted

Featured Replies

I had my S3 console bushes fitted two days ago and they are loads better than the voided bushes fitted as standard. This is because they are a solid bush and very hard rubber. These do not flex like the OE bush fitted to the car. I was shocked at the play the voided bush had when he was removing the bush from off the car. Once the S3 bushes were fitted I could tell the car felt more stable and poised at the front. My experience so far is that the car feels more planted to the road both driving in a straight line and cornering. I found under certain driving conditions the front end felt unsettled and would get what I will describe as 'a wobble on' Now that has gone and it does not move under any condition. The nose of the car does not dip under cornering as much, though being fair it already used to corner almost flat but now hardly moves at all. Braking is improved as the wheels are held more stable and the car does not 'zig zag' slightly like it used to under heavy braking. It stops straight and I would put the zig zag effect down to the rear of the console moving with the amount of play in it.

The car feels smoother to drive as it feels like there is less rolling resistance from the front wheels. I would presume that is becasue the wheels are being held more stable with the bush being solid and not allowing the console to move and the wheels to toe out slighlty. When going over a bump there is a nice solid thump from the front wheels but it is not harsh as to jarr you. There is no increase of vibration into the cabin or through the steering wheel, which is sometimes associated with poly bushes. All in all I got these at a bargain price from another member and would recommend this mod to anyone who wants a bit more from their car but wants to look OE. I always felt the steering was a bit vague at times on this car but it is now more sure footed and you can feel the level of grip in the front wheels more. I gave it the SWMBO test and asked her if she felt the car was any different or if it felt more bumpy to her as a passenger. She said 'no' so it passed the SWMBO test lol

I do not know the price for these just as a bush and no console as I bought them off a member from here. Howvever the part numbers are 1K0 199 231 N (left) 1K0 199 232 N (right) These numbers include the console housing but they may be able to just order the bush itself. I would go to a TPS parts centre as they sell genuine VAG parts at a fraction of the price. I have googled these parts and they are roughly £44 each with the console housing full price.

I have googled the part number shown on the bush but it does not return anything. The writing on the face of the bush is as follows LME (Audi symbol) 136650>NR<38 ZF D 8J0 407 183 DE

I might have to give these a try, my car wonders all over the road!

Where did you have them fitted and how much was it?

  • Author

My friend fitted them at his garage for 'Mates rates'. They are simple to install if you have access to a press to push the old bush out and the new bush in. Any decent garage would fit them for you and dont forget to factor in getting the alignment checked once done. Or if you are buying the whole S3 console plus bush, its a case of just undoing 3 bolts and pulling the old bush off and putting the new console on. Simples

When u say console bushes do you mean the rear wishbone bushes on the front? Like the ones that are replaced with the whiteline anti lift kit (WALK)?

They are the ones

Sorry mate only just seen this reply. Cheers for the reply and will have a chat with a mate in Audi and see if the bushes are available seperately as have a pair of standard mountings lying about that i can prep and swap in no time.

Just a thought aswell that if i can get the bushes seperate then the original mountings removed i can fit with the s3 bushes and make set ready for someone to fit if anyones interested? Not sure of a price yet but will check.

Just been having a search on this one aswell and there 3 possible replacements (without going aftermarket of course):

1. TT ones which are the stiffest

2. S3 ones which are middle of the road in regards to above and below.

3. Standard vRS/GTI/FR

Shown in order below (picture found on golf mkv forum)

Going to see about getting the TT ones myself

Sounds like a plan pal, how are they do you know?

Mine are the ones in the top of the picture and were sold to me as S3 console bushes.

You sure mate as the part numbers u quoted are the s3 ones and not the tt ones?

Yep, just checked and mine are solid all the way round exactly like the top one. I think the person who sold them to me must have sent me the TT ones lol

So the ones at the top of the photo are £44 each including the housing, so that would avoid the need to press the bushes in and out, as the entire housing is being replaced?

Just so I'm clear :)

It's on my 'to do' list as well.

I aint had the prices yet, but have asked my mate in Audi to get a price on the individual TT bushes without the housing to see the price difference between the whole unit that 56Octyvrs has google'd and come back with approx £44.

One thing to be aware of though is that on the golf forum the guy that bought the complete TT housing had to drill the holes bigger to fit as holes didnt line up exactly, so if it was me fella i would push the TT bushes into yours.

Or you could go the whole hog and fit the TT wishbones too - gives you much more neg camber, eats your tyres and gives you fantastic cornering ;)

Yea they are on the list for me but the aluminium TT arms are as rare as rocking horse **** and proper pricey from the dealers. Been reading up on them for a bit and seem a very good mod. I will get there eventually :)

I've ordered a set of these bushes and consoles, mine look the same as the top picture and they were sold to me as S3 ones, no gaps/holes.

Lets see what difference these make shall we? should get around to fitting them, next week

Mmm interesting what the hell are the middle ones fitted to then lol? I'm currently pursuing a possibility of killing 2 birds with one stone but will see what price I can get them for!! Fingers crossed.

Vrserious let us know your findings aswell but people who have fitted them seem happy.

Ps what part number did you order them with?

I said I wouldn't be mucking with the octy too much, but I just can't leave a car alone haha :). Happy days
