Service history

Featured Replies

Evening all. After reading a few threads about looking at new cars and steering clear of cars with missing service history, I find myself wondering what to do with my service history book, the previous owner had it serviced by skoda at the recommended intervals, now I have the car and being a mechanic of 16 years there is no way anybody but me is servicing the car. I know many of you service your cars what do you do with your books?

P.S There is no danger of me actually selling, just curious :)

I tend to update it the same way a garage would, except with more detail and safe knowledge that the things that have been done have been done properly. The only thing missing is the garage stamp.

I fill out the service info, & keep all the receipts for parts to verify the work done.

I keep a log on www.spritmonitor.de, and keep all parts receipts in a folder. You can log mileage and dates of when you fitted things.

Here's mine, over the last year and a bit (Get a bit obsessed with it, and put the smallest things into it:

I like to put fuel receipts into it too, so I can track MPG and if I get any contaminated fuel I know where it came from.

If I ever do sell the car, which I don't plan on doing ever, I can print it out and show it to them as proof.

Thanks for replies, just need to hunt down the receipts.

I'm changing from variable to fixed servicing, should I be doing 12 or 6 months? 120k+ mainly town use

My local VAG specialist suggested annual servicing is sufficient, unless you are doing more than average miles or the miles you are doing are particularly harsh (e.g. snow, etc).

I do less than 10k a year, but still tend to replace oil and filter every 6 to 9 months, as for the sake of about £30 i would rather service too often rather than not enough.
