Coding new gateway, urgent help req'd!

Featured Replies

Hi

Currently sat in my car on my phone so bear with me!

We're trying to code my new gateway, got it installed and put in the workshop, importer and equipment number but when we go to long coding it says "limited coding available, refer to Ross Tech...." and we only get about 3 blocks available.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks, Dan

Gave up and put the old gateway back in. Time to go home.

We had the option of ticking the options but the long coding page wouldn't display a proper long code, just the 6 digit code with limited access.

Was there an option for "Installation List"?

In this list you tell the gateway whats fitted eg. ABS/TC, central electrics, radio etc etc.

BIG Nick :)

If you have older version of VCDS than newer modules that version of VCDS are not fully supported. You need new cable(if you have cheap, Chinese copy) or new just software (if you have original Ross-Tech cable).

Second option - You should upgrade to the latest version of VCDS. If you still get this message than contact Ross-Tech, describe what module is this and they will help. You need original Ross-Tech cable for this.

It's the latest genuine VCDS cable I'm using. Think I've found the answer here: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/194868-coding-the-latest-can-gateways/

Yes, the 8T0 was one of the first GWs to use the shorter coding and [installation List] but the 7N0 modules are similar:

As a general rule of thumb, even on older systems, using the [installation List] feature is preferred. Normally GW replacements aren't due to failure, rather upgrades when copy and paste cannot be used due to the length of the coding.
