Which ECU Remap

Featured Replies

I have recently had the demo of the Revo remap for my octy vrs, very good but it costs

First things first....no remap is undetectable.

I take it that you want to be able to switch between standard and non standard maps because of your warranty.

1)AmD do the One Click system..think it's by DMS...and I believe it's now available for the Octy. Not sure on the price of this..always seems to be different. Straight AmD remap will cost in the region of

Nope the One Click was designed by AmD and Millford Micro Systems

Millford also supply the unit to DMS allthough the software is different.

Yeah a little concerned with the warranty, but had a taster and now 2 1/2 years seems miles away. I think jabba would be too far away, might have to look closer to home (Cardiff area).

SkodiRS you say no remap is undetectable but if I got a Bluefin and reverted to the original settings before a service or warranty claim would anyone be able to tell? I'm not after any huge gains but fancied livening my Sport up a bit so I thought the Bluefin sounded ideal. Paul.

Some maps are obviously more detectable that others, ie those that can be switched off may not arouse immediate suspicion. It depends on the way the map works, REVO and APR load a base code on and then switch it on or off as required.

I don't know exactly how the Bluefin or the BBR ones work - you would need to enquire.

Thanks for the reply Stu. I believe the Bluefin loads a different program to the ECU and keeps a backup profile of the original settings. I assume that when you revert to the original there would be no trace as the modifed one would only be stored on the device itself. I'll look into it in more detail myself if noone knows for sure. Paul.

There are some things that can still show up though. The ECU has a 'flash counter' which is increased every time the ECU is flashed. These can be reset but you'd need to chack if your chosen product takes car of this.

Take a look at these -

13880.attach

Ah. That's all a bit Big Brother. I'll have to check with Superchips very carefully then. Thanks for the heads up. Pesky computers!

Paul.

It pays to be informed :P

Very interesting, Stu. Can all recent Skoda models be checked that way?

anyone have direct experience of Custom Code in comparison to the others?

Reputedly it offers a "smoother" power delivery, maybe not quite so aggressive compared to some..?

I think it would be fair to say that is a fairly recent Skoda model Denis ;)

Stu,

I just called Superchips and was put on hold while they conferred. They came back and said that I was right that the ECU does keep a count of how many times it is flashed but that Audi wouldn't be able to see this information. I asked if they wouldn't be able to see it with VAG Com and they said no. Clearly they need to do more research themselves. Maybe they should use these forums. It's a shame because I'd love to tune the new car a little. However as one of our main reasons for buying new was to get as much warranty as possible I really don't want to invalidate it in any way that doesn't stand up to close scrutiny. Poo! I don't want to have to wait 3 years to liberate those ponies!

Paul.

Paul that's very interesting to hear - I am sure a lot of other owners will be interested in that too.

Woner if it's the same for the BBR product.

Wonder if it's the same for the BBR product.

What is the BBR product?

Stu,

Would I be right in thinking that VAG Com could clear the ECU flash count? If so then all I'd need would be an understanding garage or nearby Briskoda member. It would be worth paying something to have the remap truly stealthed.

Paul.

No it wouldn't/couldn't but the mapper can.

I would really like to see the counter on a car using one of these self programming devices and really see if it does count up.

I am led to believe. If the dealer wanted to be picky, they would send it on as an 'overnight' parcel, to the factory to see what software has been downloaded, when it was downloaded, how many times each setting was adjusted and so forth. Might cost the dealer £40 to send and recieve for example, but it would save them a lot more than paying £400 for something caused by a remap.

Google, celtic tuning, you get so much more power in yr vRS from them, id imagine it would cost tho.

Might like to try the same search here too.

On another thread I saw someone said that the DSG box was great as long as you had no plans for a remap. I'm getting the DSG on my Sport. Does that mean I can't/shouldn't remap? If not why not? Any thoughts?

Paul
