Quick question about Climate Control

Featured Replies

If you have got the Climate Control set to AUTO and you press the recirc button, does the air conditioning still run or is it switched off? The AUTO certainly dissappears from the display.

I am pretty certain it switches off

Hmm...not sure....all it's doing is reusing the air that already in the car. HOwever the only time the a/c is off is when you seen OFF on the display...I think.

It switches the electric fans off on the condensor.

May well disengage the clutch on the compressor, cant remember for sure.

When 'AUTO' is displayed all it means is that is is running on your preset preferences and is keeping the temperature etc constant.

Pressing the Recirc button is interrupting the AUTO function but I'm pretty sure keeps the cold climate control on... the air just gets thinner!!! :D

Thanks for the replies guys.

The reason for the question is that I know when "AUTO" is displayed, the air conditioning is used and when "ECON" is displayed the air conditioning is off. However, when "AUTO" is displayed and recirc is pressed, neither "AUTO" or "ECON" is displayed.

Ross - I guess if the condensor fans are switched off then the air conditioning is probably off.

If you adjust fan speed or the air distribution pushbuttons when in AUTO mode, air conditioning reverts to manual control and neither AUTO nor ECON are displayed. Selecting ECON mode switches air con off, as does setting the fan speed to lowest setting then pressing that fan speed selection button again. That said, I don't know the answer to the original question!

aircon still runs in recirc mode.. aircon on + recirc + lo = coldest you can make it.

RTFM

From what I remember of playing around with the climate controls in my Octi when I got it, the only thing that tells you whether the Air-Con is running or not is (like what DGW posted) the Auto/Econ display:

AUTO = Air-Con ON (auto temp maintain & fan speed/direction)

ECON = Air-Con OFF (auto temp maintain (but no cooling of air below ambient) & fan speed/direction)

Blank = Air-Con ON (manual temp, but auto direction & fan speed unless manually adjusted)

By pressing the Recirc button you are manually controlling one of the functions that the AUTO mode would normally control, so the unit cannot be in full auto mode, I think.

So, in answer to your question, yes the Air-Con is still on.
