Favorit Dash Swap mk2 into mk1

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have been searching on here but i couldnt find the exact answer to my question.

So my issue is that my Mk1 (1991) favorit has a dodgy speedo/revcounter unit (its all faded etc and just generally crap. So i went to the local scrappy and he has 9 favorits!! all are pretty much intact and all are "mk2" versions. So my question is, will a instrument cluster from one of these fit on mine in terms of wiring? mine is the one where the light is NEXT to the icon and its brown, the others are where the actual icon lights up and they are black, also the rev counter on the mk2 has a green and redline.

Will it fit??

Thanks in advance!! :)

I don't think it will mate as the loom for the cars will be totally different. The rev counter on the Mk2's gets its signals via the ecu I think too, like the Felicia.

Well i went to the scrappy and got found a forman 1993 with a 100% intact and mint interior!! but from it all i took among some other stuff, the clocks. Now as Felly Magic mentioned above there was no way they were going to fit "out of the box". so i dissasembled both my current one and the modern 1993+ one and set about changing the speedo. This was a straight swap, but it looked really good and there was the rest of it that looked so more modern and i couldnt ignore it. So i went about swapping all the face plates over (i tried swapping the whole units as is but the bolt holes dont line up)... so after 2 hours of careful swapping and changing i ended up with the below.. It all works GREAT but as u can see the light up part in the middle and along the bottom is looking a bit odd. And i have half the bulbs (for night driving) blown.. so i will have to open it up again anyway and i will put the inserts from the "newer" clocks in there and it should look EXACTLY like a 1993+ model unit but with the mk1 electronics! well chuffed!!

The warning lamp layout on the SPi clocks is totally different too, and the seatbelt warning was dropped, as well as the now surplus choke.

The car i got it from was a carb model(sadly there are no injection models over here).. It has EXACTLY the same layout of the current lights but also an ABS light in the current blank space on the left and i presume a traction control or something light in the blank on the far right (in my first pic you can see the blanks have been covered with a bit of chopped up plastic from the old fuel gauge face and superglued in place, the "new" insert is 1 light longer on the left and the right with the original lights in the same positions).. the choke/seatbelt etc is all exactly as in my "old" clock unit :) .. when i go to change them around i will get pics of them side by side if so u can see exactly what i mean.

Not seen Favrit/Foreman instruments before. I know the Felicia 'evolved' from the Favrit, but blimey, that layout only changes slightly as it went into the Felly.

Did the seatbelt warning ever work on any of them? (Felly, Favrit or Foreman) I think mine sits on the left, along with choke warning and ABS warning lights. (up the 'redundant' end)

On mine the seatbelt and the choke light never come on ( i know the choke works for sure) and i dont have abs so that will be a spare bulb socket :) hehe

On the very early Favorits, the seatbelt warning was a right royal pain in the bum, as it had an annoying clicking too from the relay that made the light flash.

So.. I swapped out all the inserts and this is how it looks! ... Im pretty happy with it!! The "backend" of this unit is the mk1 favorit with the clock faces and the light inserts from the newer mk2 favorit.
