Gearbox query---Knackered?

Featured Replies

I think my gearbox is on its last legs! All seems ok when there is revs, sounds horrible when the revs are off. Knackered?? My question is regarding gearboxes. I have read that a gearbox from any engined felly will fit (mines a diesel truck), final drives are different. I want to know if people have put a 1.3 gearbox in a diesel, is this easy to live with? More revs all the time etc? I'm not a top speed freak so it doesnt bother me if it tops out at 82. I'm gona drop my box out this afternoon and have a look. Your opinions please ladies and gentlemen.

Hmm, found out that I dont need a new gearbox quite yet. The problem was dicovered in spectacular style with one of my front wheels coming off! Luckily for me it was when I'd pulled off the road onto a gravelled area by the side of the road. Luckily only going at 5mph or so so only scuff damage to wheel and none to me or anyone else. Schoolboy error to blame, I hadn't properly tightened my wheelnuts, hence the horrible noise being made. I'd only done them up with my 12v impact driver and not gone round with my spider to pinch them up after. Wont forget to do that again in a hurry!
