Overdue Pics and thoughts so far

Featured Replies

Well, 3 weeks ago I collected my new Superb Elegance 170 TDi from the dealer and promised to post pictures, which I haven't had chance to do until now: post-68536-0-84004700-1306667803_thumb.jpgpost-68536-0-03686200-1306667873_thumb.jpgpost-68536-0-49815300-1306667890_thumb.jpg

It's also about time I gave my views after 3 weeks of ownership. Firstly, I have no major grumbles at all, the car is refined, smooth, comfortable and very easy to drive. So comfortable that SWMBO and the kids love it, which is praise indeed! Despite the size, it really does feel like a smaller car, well until you need to find a parking space that is!

Ride and handling is good for a car of its size and weight, takes corners very well with very little body roll and handles bumps with composure. Unlike my previous car, I do not feel as though it has a secondary purpose to try and compress my spine by an inch or so every time I go over the slightest bump!

The engine is refined and quiet with decent fuel economy - saw an indicated 50+ mpg on a 100+ mile run yesterday - happy with that as it has less than 1k miles on and I know it will get better as time passes.

Equipment is fantastic, loving the satnav, TMC and MDI, great to be able to listen to my ipod whilst on the move. I've also used the Bluetooth without any dramas and once I'd sussed my role in the pairing process, my HTC desire connected without any issues.

The car has received compliments from just about everyone that's seen it or had a ride in it, a lads trip to the races last week drew plenty of praise and the owner of our local Chinese asked if it was a BMW :giggle: and was somewhat shocked when I told him it was a Skoda

Any downsides? Well, I do keep smiling whilst driving which is unusual :o and I can't say I'm too impressed with the carpets, although having gone for the mats I'm not too upset by them. The only other thing is that the steering wheel lines up ever so slightly lh down when running in a straight line, so it does look as though it needs a trip to the dealer to correct this (but unlike my previous BMW at least it ain't an entire door out of line ;) ) which I could do without, but will have to be done.

Overall, another Skoda manufactured happy driver!

Looking good- how do you keep it so clean? I have had mine 5 weeks, 2600 miles on the clock and I due to mother being in hospital 50 miles away I havent had time to clean mine, and have been racking up the mileage. Average fuel consumtion for 1.6CR 54 mpg indicated 52 brim to brim- very happy with this after mid 40's with Avensis.

I have black carpets- dont think they are any worse than those fitted by Toyota

Dont have all the toys being mean and getting an S, but agree it is nice to play ipod through the main speakers, even with 3.5 jack rather than MDI, especially since Swing radio doesnt seem to have MW so I have lost radio 5 live toatlly now.

I drove some colleague to a conference in Glasgow this week and unusually there wasnt the usual rush to get the front seat- everyone was more than happy to sit in the back. No one has come out with a Skoda joke to my face yet and everyone who has seen/been in the car have been impressed. My sister saw it for the first time yesterday and said the name is totally aprropriate.

Anyone found a cure for the idiotic grin while driving yet?:wonder:

... yep, buy an Audi :giggle:

... yep, buy an Audi :giggle:

Or don't!

Having just come from a 2006 A4 tdi and then a 52 A6 2.5Tdi.....I wouldn't go back....and I haven't even picked my Superb up yet!!! :giggle:

Only 18 hours to go though!:D

Exactly... It would be enough to wipe the grin off any Superb-driver's face :D

Picked it up.....from Mansfield.....

...151 miles, a beautiful sunny afternoon, 9 GB worth of free music from the last owner, a couple of really embarrassed Mondeo ST, 320d and an A4 Tdi drivers later :giggle: and the smile still hasn't left! B)

Sweet!

Steering could be the road camber vs the weight of the car, Omega's used to be notorious for it, nice car btw.

I have a mate with a Q5. He never stops going on about my Skoda.

The laugh is his Q5 with less goodies cost him 34 grand. Nuff said.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Have to confess, the pics were taken on the day I collected it, but as it's cappuccino it does hide dirt quite well! Been thru the local carwash and seemed to get enhanced service, something to do with the car being built close to where the operatives were born perhaps? ;)

MisterGH - I think we bought our cars from the same establishment!

Supurbia - thanks for the advice, weight and road quality does appear to play a part.

I did consider buying an Audi 2 yrs ago, but am still awaiting a call from an Audi salesman to confirm a test drive.....

Wouldn't change the Superb for anything this side of a top spec 911 or ferrari road car.....

Go and stand in the naughty corner- "took it through the local car wash" indeed!

Superb should be given more attention than SWMBO on the washing/ caressing/waxing front

Snow foam

Rinse with powerwasher

Wash by hand with 2BM

RInse with powerwasher

Hand dry with microfibre cloth

Wax

Sealant

Then see if you have any energy left for SWMBO :giggle:

Sorry sir, I'll take my punishment with good grace

I was pushed for time tbh, but do intend to invest in some "proper" car washing kit so I can lavish the correct level of care upon Superb!

As for swmbo, with a 2 and 3 yr old, chance would be a fine thing! :S
