Just wondering as some companies say they leave it in place when it's mapped out, is it part of the exhaust system??

Yes it's in the exhaust. You can't just "map" it out, it needs to be physically removed also.

yeah it is, it at the front, around where the Downpipe and Exhaust are connected.. some leave it in place and drill it out.

So if I ever need a complete new exhaust do I get a new filter

no the DPF is very expensive, IIRC its £500+ to replace, but after its removed there is no need to ever have it again.......

I was thinking of having it removed when I visit Ben @ shark for a re-map but I'm a bit worried that there may be new MOT requirements pending (2012) and if a car came with one it must have one. If I have it removed I may have to have one refitted and then another map to tell the ECU that it now has a DPF

I would spend the extra money now, and get the Milltek DPF delete pipe!

Not a Stupid Question at all

It's a "Diesel Particle Filter", it's in the Exhaust and it captures Soot...............Diesels Only :yes:

Diesel Particle Filter, its a big metal box on exhaust that traps diesel soot and then uses extra fuel to burn it off :thumbdown:

It also gets clogged very easily and brakes, costing like 1200 a time because its not covered under warranty :thumbdown:

Europe has had the fantastic idea of telling VOSA its good for the world and therefore they are making them a legal requirment from 2012-onwards :thumbdown:

On the upside its saving the planet apparently :giggle:

This is exactly why we remove the internals from the standard DPF rather than fit a shiny and obviously different pipe - just incase the regulations do change :thumbup:

Do you get a better BHP increase with the DPF removed with a remap and better MPG or is it about the same??

mmmmm........looks like you might be removing the filter then

What happens if the Mot rules change, New DPF or what??????

Watch out for the MOT from 2012 where if a DPF is fitted at the factory then it must be present otherwise you will fail the MOT test. You cannot simply put one back in either, as it would need to be remapped back in.

If you go to Ben, I believe he modifies the current exhaust, so it looks like the DPF is still in place, whereas there is nothing in the exhaust.

A rather sweeping and inaccurate comment.

The DPF would be covered by warranty if the vehicle is in warranty and has been serviced correctly. If the DPF is blocked beyond rescue due to a fault then it is covered as consequential damage. It wouldn't block unless the correct driving/procedure hasn't been followed or there is another issue.

although the DPF will still look like it is present the particulates would be higher as it is not there to filter them out. If the requirement for particulates is tighten for DPF cars then it could still fail which would mean having to buy a new one. With limits always tighening and new regulations coming in I am not sure I would want to risk taking my DPF out.

Don't thinK I'll bother then, can't see the point of removing the DPF and then having to possibly fit a new one and another remap................Can't make my mind up

Might keep this car as standard, I can always get the wife's remapped

Remap does not mean the DPF will die, my PD superb with DPF was remapped by Ben last year and I have had no DPF issues so far.

Wouldn't MOT emissions tests show up the fact that the DPF has been "drilled out"? e.g. more soot in the exhaust emissions?

Well so far nobody ive read about has managed to get one replaced under warranty, plus its proving there was a fault rather than driving style! At end of the day there just a pain in the rear :giggle:
