312's fitted

Featured Replies

Fitted my 312mm TT brake setup today, visually looks so much better with the 16" wheels!! Going to take it for a little drive later to start the 'bedding in' process. Cant say that they're any better yet as its all new but im sure they will be! Car will be going in Thursday for a brake fluid change and service so will be like a different car lol. Ill get some pics up in a bit!

If you don't notice a significant difference then you haven't fitted them correctly ;)

Lol, i know how to and have fitted them correctly. Id only gone around the block and new discs and pads need to bed in. Ive since gone for a good drive and can feel the difference and the fluid is 4 years old so some fresh should make it even better.

Hahaha reminds me a bit of this

My garage also has wall to wall carpeting, it's much warmer than cold concrete.

Why not renew fluid while you where there, save you some monies.

Because i had it booked in for its service which includes a brake fluid change and i wanted to keep the skoda service history up to date.

Aye i see, but all you had to do was tick the box for fluid change ;)

Any chance of a photo with the alloys fitted?

It was in with the price of the service (2yr service plan), plus they can sort it out if they get or is any air in the system.

Ill get a photo tomorrow with the wheel on as they were filthy, as is the car!

Looks good. I'm very jealous. On my list of things to do when funds allow.

Another vote here for pics with the wheels on.

Good work, I'm processing this setup myself to but I can't remove the orginals discs so waiting to rent the good tool and go for it in two days....I'm so hurry to test!!!!

Pics will be up tonight. As for removing the discs, do you mean they wont come off the hub or you aint got the sockets etc for removing the original brake setup?

Haha, nice one, think i might change the wheels again next though. Until i can afford to have my drive angle changed the car cant be lowered, i posted a pic a while ago because people kept saying lower it.

Mine catches on mine as we have a slight lil drop to get on mine but mine is quite low lol

Disks and pads are fine, or you can get mintex for about the same. I looked at those calipers as they are only down the road from me. Personaly id just look for a 2nd hand set. Should be able to get calipers and discs for about the same price as those calipers alone. Not much to go wrong on the calipers, new seals aint that much and only need painting in hammerite red/green.

Thanks for the advice

New seal kits aren't too pricey - I've just paid £35 for 2 x 256mm kits from TPS.

The potential problems with buying 2nd hand over buying the reconditioned set in the above link is the quality. You could buy 2nd hand and have a real gem, or you could buy a set where the seals have gone and the brakes look shocking!

I purchased some 256mm rears a while back (that were supposidly 'ready to fit') and the seals are totally goosed. I am not a mechanic by any means, and would not want to fit my own brakes, let alone refurb a set :o

Thankfully, a good friend is a master tech and will sort me out, but I can totally understand why people would want to purchase a fully reconditioned set.

Painting is a different issue - it seems that 95% of the members on post about 'where can I buy hammerite smooth green???' at some point, whereas us SE owners take a perfectly decent set of Octavia (green) 312mm/256mm brakes and then paint over the green in red! ;)

I got a large tin of smooth green unopened ready for when my

reconditioned calipers turn up. . Bought it over a year ago for about £8.

Seems like rocking horse **** nowadays though. :)
