Changing Diverter Valve advice?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone.

I recently got my octy vrs and I love it, really good build quality, refined looks, and the tfsi is a real nice unit, I was expecting a slug of power tdi style but it's so progressive I was suprised :).

Anyway, I'm looking to jump on the shark group buy band wagon. The thing is though I wont be able to make the trip up to Ben to work his magic, so I'm going to do it through the sts.

I've been told that the DV is a weak link and should really be changed for an OEM DV "D" as it's a revised design and not prone to split like the older type. I guess I've still got the older type since it's a 56plate. I might be stupid but I cant find the DV?! That's right, I've had a poke about under the bonnet but I honestly cannot locate it. Might have something to do with the huge engine cover :D

Anyone out there who's able to give me pointers? I know it's tucked away in there somewhere, and I want to change this part before mapping the car as I dont want the DV splitting!

Thanks :)

The diverter valve is located on the turbo charger on the driver side. Access is from under the car and is about a 20 min to change.

 thanks fella, I'll order the part in and have a go.

I had Alex at Backdraft Motorsport check mine out (2010 TSI Vrs). I was expecting to have the latest "D" revision based on what I'd read on the net, but it turns out mine had the earlier type.

I had him swap to the newer part, £40 IIRC plus the labour, and yes, its accessed from below the car.

HTH.

Just called up a local dealer and it comes to £54 inc vat, ouch! But I rather do this than the engine throwing a fit when I do eventually remap it.

Just had my 1.8TSi remapped, is the DV a change that I should do as well or just something for the VRs engine?

I thought the tsi didn't suffer from the same diverter valve problem as the tfsi? I.e they had the revised diverter valve?

That's what I thought too. Mine was not a "d" revision of the valve, but it is now.

£53 on EBay Inc del if it helps

I had mine uprated to the S3 diverter valve. Apparently a better engineered part and a similar price to the revised Skoda part. Cost me about £45 fitted

Where from may I ask please?

Huh they are the same valve just located in a different place.

My understanding, s3 valve is the revision D.

ETKA lists the D valve as fitting the 2.0Tsi CCZA engine(new Octavia Tsi engine) and the 1.8T Tsi CDAA.

As far as I can see the S3 is on the Rev G valve same as the Tfsi Octavia.

Rev D valve still fits the Tfsi Octavia with no probs but it should really be the diaphram G valve.

I got the info from these forums before changing, and I'm sure I was told the S3 component doesn't have the rubber skirt that the skoda part has (which is prone to splitting) - I thought it was more of a mechanical part?

I had my changed by JabbaSport, i'll ask them next time i'm back in

@OP, the main difference between the DV you will have (I had the same model) is the old type is a diaphragm which is prone to spliting, whereas the rev 'D' is a piston type so virtually infallable.

Although mine was running stage 1 it felt shockingly slow, and I had terrible flat spots, and the reason............?

Another member with VCDS completed some running logs and I was running at less than half boost!!

You can't order G anymore, they all supersede to D (the piston type) they had 107 in stock today at £44.02 plus VAT each :)

heres a link and a few pics of mine when i changed it, it really was easy to do , it also gave me the excuse to buy a 1/4" socket set.

dv

as i remember jack the car up and support both sides, remove the engine tray , then locate the valve remove and refit. the last pic may give you a clue where it is.

I took the drivers side wheel off and did mine through the wheel arch, not sure why but I think I had something else to do there.
