Good price or suggest alternative?

Featured Replies

Hello

I believe my 2007 year old Octavia 2.0TDi is now due a new cambelt (35,000 miles and 4 years old). I have been quoted £560 for new cambelt and water pump by my local dealer (Slaters in Abergele). It sounds a lot to me but is this a reasonable price and can someone recommend another garage in North Wales? (needs to be VAT registered for the warranty, etc).

Thanks

£560 sounds very pricey. G/f had cam belt, water pump and MOT done on her Fabia vRS at Cowley Motors for £280. Don't know if Frodsham is too far away for you, but if it isn't then defo worth giving Glen at Cowley a bell. Otherwise I'd say defo worth shopping round as I'm sure you'll be able find a better price than that...

Good luck

That sounds VERY pricey!

Had mine done on the last car (1.9TDI) for low 300's by dealer - sorry can't remember exact figure

Yes, way too pricey! I've heard of others recommending Cowley motors before giving them a great service and super price, although I guess it's about an hours drive from Abergele, (been a while since I lived in N Wales) so not too sure of who to reccomend up there any more. My folks live in Chester & my Octavia has been in there before for work. Realistically expect to pay around the £400 mark, (even others may say that's erring on the expensive side).

Skoda in poole quoted me the same price, I ended up paying £407 for the Cambelt and a custom metal impeller water pump at JKM in Portsmouth (I know not an option for you), don't forget that the car should have the correct VAG G12 coolant replaced wherever you go, there should be other members able to comment on wherelse to go in your area. Keep us updated!

Thank you for all the replies - I thought it was pricey as well but did wonder if Skoda's are expensive to service, etc.

I will contact Cowley for a quote tomorrow but it may not be ideal as I work in Llanberis which is in the opposite direction and I was trying not to take a day off to get the work done (already used most of this years holiday quota :D).

VW currently have fixed price servicing. They are quoting £399 for belt and pump at any VW dealer www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/fixed-price-servicing. Either use this to bargain with your Skoda dealer (like I did - they price matched it) or go to VW.

i live in Chester and had mine done at QR sport in Tattenhall , £351 for belt , pump . tensioner . QR are a VAG specialist . http://www.qrsport.com/

I live near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire but my VRS TDi is being serviced and having a cam belt, water pump and all tensioners etc for £475. This includes brake fluid change too. All geniune skoda parts. The Cam belt and water pump + bits is £275. Thought this might help as a guide for pricing. Probably a bit far to come for you. The garage is called JMC at Sutton-in-Ashfield.

I was quoted £345.12 all in for the cambelt last summer and £435.52 all in, including new water pump which is what we decided to go for in the end. That was from a Skoda main dealer.

Thanks to everyone for the replies.

I have booked it in for new belt and water pump in the local VW dealership at their £399 fixed price for this Friday. I some of you quoted slightly cheaper that this, but the VW dealership is only a mile from me so it's really convenient location. They are a part of the same group as the Skoda dealer (Slaters in North Wales) that supplied the original quote.
