Apple WWDC 2011

Featured Replies

Hi. Thought I would start the "What's Apple doing next" ball rolling. Conference starts on Monday 6th June and is one of the platforms for new product / software launches.

Hopefully the LION OS will be released this summer. Should be quite a cheap upgrade from Snow Leopard to boot :)

iCloud seems to be a safe bet too.

The smaller iphone5 is widely leaked due September.

Seems Apple have realised some people dont want a screen that big.

I'm sure we will find out at 1800 this evening.

Wasn't the screen supposed to be the same size or only slightly smaller but it be a proper edge to edge screen so making the phone itself smaller.

Cheers

Dave.

Should I leave my ipad order till after 6 then?

As expected no hardware announced. Lots of new software coming.

Not sure, as I've read so many versions on this. I know the spat with Samsung who make their screens wont help development of an edge to edge screen.

Then there's dropping such a device, which will unlikely result in an unsmashed screen unless they make a standard screen simply appear as if it's edge to edge via a fish-eye glass effect?

From the info i've seen Toshiba are going to be manufacturing the screens. Was worded something along the lines of..... "They have just opened a new factory for their new production lines for Apple"

And Sony are being lined up for the camera production.

Cheers

So we got...

iCloud for FREE and annoyed all the MobileMe users out there.

Lion OS X 10.7 (in July) for 30 bucks so probably 30 quid.

Lion Server (in July) for 50 bucks, so 50 quid for a full server operating system that runs on any Mac kit, could be interesting.

iOS5 (in Autumn) so expect a new device announcement then, with no need for a PC to set up or use a device.

LOL at iOS5

'taking a mobile operating system that was already years ahead of anything else and moving it even further ahead'

http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html

One swipe access - Already on Android (Galaxy s)

Notifications - Already on Android

iMessage - Er Google Talk, BBM etc etc

Newstand - a million apps already for all other OS's

Reminders - er didn't Nokia introduce this back in the 90's!

Twitter - wow they've made an app part of the OS - just like Android then?

Camera - Can do all this already on Android and stream to clouds

Photos - Can enhance already and plenty of free apps on multiple platforms to do the same

Safari - the worst browser in the world - enough said

PC Free - So you are now able to buy one and use it like every other Phone on the planet - Only took 5 years!

etc, etc, etc

Can't believe how much they hype it up when the reality is, most other manufacturers have been using these wonderful new features for years!

I am not against Apples (I am Apple certified :giggle: ) but their advertising should be had up by the advertising ombudsman!

iTunes update yesterday for mac seems to have started to implement some of the features mentioned at WWDC. For example, if I now buy an app on the iphone from the app store, then itunes will now download it as well without it being connected to the phone like it used to when sync.ing.

I'm not anti mac, I use a Mac at work - but the best update they have in there is the PC Free - disconnecting the device from iTunes seems like a great idea.

All the other ideas just seem stolen from other devices.. about time Apple started copying Android :)

OK so the reality distortion field was set quite high during the WWDC Keynote.

ITunes Match will give you a 256k version of something you have at CD quality and charge you an annual subscription for the privilege.

Adding tabbed browsing is only restoring features that already existed in other versions of the same product and still not having a solution for viewing Flash content is an elephant in the room.

However £34.99 for an unlimited user, enterprise class server solution blows NT and Exchange Server licensing costs out of the water (unless MS has changed it's pricing recently).

Hi. Before you shout about stealing others ideas have a look back at Steves Jobs keynote in 1997. A lot of what he suggested then is now coming to fruition. Can't say they don't wait until it has been perfected before they release it or that they steal others ideas.
