DSG SKODA V DSG PASSAT

Featured Replies

my car had little accident.07 1.9 tdi ambiente had it since 11,000 mls now done 110,000

whilst its in bodyshop insurance provided 60 plate 2 ltr cr highline passat.first thing

i noticed very quiet and silky smooth.biggest difference is gearbox, nearly no hesitation

and much better operation all round.no drag when coming to lights and my skoda has always

sounded as if clutch was slipping during takeoff.its a newer car so either passat has better

system or maybe they improved the dsg.the dsg in the passat is the nearest thing to perfect

i have ever driven.or maybe my skoda has never been right, have,nt driven another skoda with

dsg so not sure if its just mine.but think my next car will be passat.

Obvious question time - Do both cars have 6 speed (or 7 speed) DSG? If not, you're very much not comparing like with like in the boxes, and the differences between the 2 boxes are well documented by the Guild of Muttering Rotters.

hi there funny you should mention that i did wonder if it was

7 speed dry clutch but display only shows 6 gears did ask guy

that delivered car he said it was same box as my skoda but he

was,nt sure if dry or wet system, not much help there then.

If it is the 2.0CR it will be a 6sp wet clutch. The 7sp can't handle the torque of the 2.0.

ps no hesitation on mine - perhaps there is an update to the mechatronics unit or in fact an updated mechantronics unit.

A 4 year old / 110,000 mile auto is never going to be as smooth as a brand new one.

Although the principle of the DSG will be the same I'm sure there have been many tweaks over the years.

I don't know for sure but I don't see why the DSG box in the Passat will be any different to that in a similar engined Octavia.

After owning an Octavia I always feel pretty smug when I see Passat drivers in their over priced VW badged Skoda's :giggle:

i got the skoda when it was 6 months old with 11,000 mls the passat has 7,000 mls

dsg operation in skoda has never been anywhere near as good as this passat.first

chance i get shall be renting new skoda just compare like with like.everything else

about skoda i like, just hope new skoda got dsg as good as passat.if not i,m buying

passat.

i havent driven a skoda with a dsg box, but i've just had a 60 reg passat 2.0 tdi bluemotion as a hire car for a week with work and it was a truly brilliant car. loved it.

I drove an 11 plate 7spd Octavia DSG for a day (1.8TSi), very smooth gear changes when in motion, but starting from rest there tended to be a bit of a delay and then it would jump forward rather than creep, this put me off rather as maneuvering on my drive is pretty tight.

yep that is how my skoda drives and it has not changed since i

got the car, thought it was quirk of dsg.first drive of passat

was amazed chalk and cheese.the passat dsg has no drag coming

to lights no jerky starts changes are ultra smooth.guy in filling

station with octy 09 25,000mls said his dsg same charactaristics

as mine.cant believe passat dsg is same as the one i have in octy.

When I first got my 1.8TSI DSG I found the same. It is not necessarily the gearbox but more to do with technique. With a manual you can use the clutch to compensate for clumsy throttle operation. No possibility of this with an auto. You need very light and precise throttle control. During low speed manoeuvres just let the tickover trickle the car along after a slight delay in moving off.

After the first couple of months I serously doubted the wisdom of moving to DSG but now I am used to its quirks and foibles I realise it was the right decision.

oh i love dsg and i love having an auto with mpg close to a manual.i spend up to 12 hours

per day stop start in town center, did,nt take long to figure out throttle control and shifting

into neutral at times.my point is with the passat no need to ease throttle and no worries when

pulling out of junctions.my wife is driving instructor also taxi driver she hates skoda dsg refuses

to drive it.she can,t put up with the delay when trying to pull out into traffic and in rush hour

constant stop start bumper to bumper stuff prefers manual box.guess what? wife went out in passat said

it was fantastic best car she ever driven, her words were(silky smooth )she wants to know why can,t our

skoda have a dsg like the passat?my regular passengers are even commenting how much better the passat

feels, not looking forward to the return of the skoda.

have you considered there may be a software update available?
