Socket set.

Featured Replies

Need a Socket set,

I had a new pair of tyres on the rear of lynz's Octy, and i need to check the wheel nuts, Normally i would just use a wheel brace and jump on it to make sure the nuts are not loose :dull:

I have since found a "new" Torque Wrench i got a few years ago free from a Land Rover Magazine, hence my need for a socket set.

Can anyone recommend a basic set, and what size socket do i need for an Octy mk1 wheel nut?

The wheel bolts are 17mm.

You are better off buying a deep 6 point impact socket (impact sockets are usually black), impact sockets are thicker than a normal socket and therefore stronger, it is pretty easy to break a normal chrome vandium socket when torquing a wheel up, as they need to be done up to 120lbf.

You can buy dedicated alloy wheel sockets that have a plastic cover around the outside to protect the wheel, ebay or Halfords (did I just say that? :giggle: ) is your friend.

Just make sure that you get the correct size drive for your torque wrench.

Thanks Martin,

Torque wrench is a 3/8 size

Snap on do a blue point range of service kits, ive get all 3 kits 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 kits, use them for govey jobs at home. Not bad kit for snap on's cheaper range
