Skoda Octavia VRS 2.0TDi 56 plate CAR FROM HELL

Featured Replies

I could be talking pants here, but it might be of some help.

My last car was a Peugeot with the 1.6hdi 110 FAP engine (FAP - Particulate filter)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FAP How does it work ?

Phase 1: filtering

This first phase involves catching the soot particles in a porous, silicon carbide filter.

Phase 2: elimination of particles

The second step, eliminating the soot particles, takes place in the regeneration phase. This periodic operation (after several hundred kilometres) is automatic and transparent to the driver. It simply consists in burning the soot particles that have accumulated in the filter, at a very temperature.

The sequential regeneration takes place on account of the combined action:

- Of the common rail system, which carries out a post-injection of fuel that helps increase the temperature of the exhaust to the combustion temperature for soot particles.

-Of the additive that is automatically put in very small doses into the fuel tank, which brings down the temperature to 450°C as required for burning off the soot. This unique FAP additive technique ensures Peugeot vehicles eradicate particles in a reliable manner over time.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Peugeot manual suggests if the filter blocked and performance was low take the car for a run at min 50 mph for 20mins, (A good blast works better(and a lot more fun)).

Cant help thinking if the same fluid was squirted into a tank of diesel and the car given a good run it might help clear some of the soot out of the DPF.

Peugeot fluid is eolys fluid as far as I can find, not nice stuff by all accounts, dont know if there are any redex or similar aftermarket products that could be used.

As I said at the start, this could be poop, just food for thought.

John.

been having a google and found the following

AA experience

We're seeing some evidence of these systems failing to regenerate too, even on cars used mainly on motorways. It seems that on cars with a very high sixth gear engine revs are too low to generate sufficient exhaust temperature. Occasional harder driving in lower gears should be sufficient to burn off the soot in such cases.

Hope this helps.

edit,

Just had a thought, you buy a diesel for economy, then have to boot it to clean out the filter, hummmmm.

Didn't know some cars had a special tank for cleaners? I wonder how much they rob you to refil it? I bet most people who have one don't know about them til they need a service and if you can do 28k on a litre you and you have a 4 litre tank, it should last a while, but whats the betting the garage tell you it needs refilling on every service!

That JLM stuff looks good, looking at the PDF it can cure fully blocked DPF's which VW would say needs replacing!

I wonder if it's any good at clearing sooted up turbos? If it works on DPF's then I guess it might?

I see that you are in Sutton? Take it to Midland VW in Cannock and get them to sort it all out! What he doesn't know about VAG engines isn't worth knowing.

Agreed. They know their stuff.

It is a PD engine with a DPF = recipe for disaster

Get the guts knocked out of the DPF and the car remapped, no DPF problems anymore!

Plenty have done it already, it costs less than a new DPF by a long way.

Buying a DPF from a scrappers????? Are you having a laugh - you thought you were unlucky with the car you bought, do you want to roll the dice again to see if you come up lucky with a good DPF from a scrap yard?

Agree on your first points. Re the scrappie, not having a laugh, its a cheap fix for a few months, with them only just starting to fail & no real demand yet you may get one cheaply . Always best to get the yellow pages out & go to the smaller scrappies as they often dont know what they have. A few years ago I picked up up a complete Subaru STi engine with 24000 miles on it for £1100. Out of an Import & the scrappie assumed being an Import it was worth duck all. Anywhere else they were £2500 +

The DPF knock out & remap is cheaper than a new dpf from a dealer. For anyone with a 4x4 be prepared for a bit of a shock as the transfer box etc has to come out to get the DPF out, puts the labour charge up somewhat but still worth it IMO :thumbup: Strange how Skoda class the DPF as a filter when it fails & therefore a service item to be paid for by the customer yet on the 4x4 you have to start dismantling the car to replace a service item.
