it was yesterday evening, opening the boot lid (after unlock)by pulling the lever produced a loud rattling noise (i assumed that something from the luggage scraped against the lid and closed it again) it again came while unloading the boot. then i emptied the boot and tried shutting down and opening the door. to my dismay the rattle came from the lid itself (the lock area) i fiddled with the lever hook in the lock bay of the lid and then i realized i can not close the door.. it wont hook up and you can lift it without releasing lock. well after locking and unlocking it 2-3 times i was able to click it shut but the rattle still persists and i fear opening the boot again.

what could be the problem?

Hi nothing should rattle in there, you may have damage the catch itself?, try resetting the system with the key put in driver side door and turn anti- clockwise then turn the key clockwise this may help the catch but shouldn't rattle

Surprisingly today when i opened the hatch the lid opened well without any noise!! i hope it continues to be so. thanks for the reply

Hell! it again started making that rattling noise. one thing more when it rattles it doesnt get latched when lowered. the resetting of lock by turning the key CW and then ACW made it lockable. what could be the prob?

Take to boot panel off and have a looksie.
