Looking to get a VCDS

Featured Replies

Hey guys I'm lookin to get a vag com for my mk1 octavia vrs but I'm not sure what one to get. I'm only looking to mess with the windows, locking systems, horn and all those kind of related things. I kinda have a tight budget so I was just looking for the cheapest option that could do those things. Anyone have any idea?

Cheapest way would be to get someone with the genuine article to do it for you.

Next cheapest way is an eBay knock off cable, which may or may not work.

As you have a mk1 you need no more than a cheap kkl cable some times called vag-com cable ect as found on ebay and alike or make your own cable the software is downloadable from the ross-tech website

http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/

It is not a knock off cable as is not the later version and can be supported by ross-tech if you pay there registration fee .

a tutorial for the windows and links to what you need can be found here

the software download link has changed since the tutorial and is here http://www.motordiag.eu/mkm/index.php

+1 for the cheap ebay cable - about £8 - this helped me diagnose a problem recently and does enough as freeware, ie find or reset most faultcodes.

I got it working thanks so much!

You don't happen to know what other cool features I can add with the cable? Like auto locking once you start driving or changing the miles to kilometres?
