Drivers window switches fault

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

The Mrs has a fault on her Fabia where the 2 switches for the leccy windows are basically doing as they please.

Most of the time for the drivers window switch she has to press it upto 20 times to get the window down.

Then sometimes when pressing the drivers window down it actually takes the window back up!

Then other times the dirvers and passenger switches swap roels and control the wrong window.

I've done a search and found that a battery disconnect or fuse removal may clear the fault so i'm going to give that a try tonight.

Failing that I was going to buy a spare switch unit from one of my local breakers yards, if it comes to that can anyone tell me how to get at the internals of the switch unit? Will I need any special tools? Which trims do I need to remove and how do I remove them?

any help much appreicated

Cheers

Could be one of several things really. Switches themselves, Corroded contacts on multiplug on door A pillar, Comfort control Module. Worth getting a code scan done with VAGCOM to see if there are any comms issues between controllers.

I've got VAGCOM so I can do a scan tonight.

From what I remeber the only issue I had was with an ABS sensor which is now sorted, will scan again tonight though and post back results

well i've managed to fix this

all i've done is removed the 2 fuses for both front windows, whilst these were out I took out the drivers side control unit and opened it up. it was a little dirty in there (nothing major though) so I gave it a quick clean and put the unit back together, refit and then refit the 2 fuses and all was working fine.

couldn't say whether it was the clean of the unit or the fuse removal for 10 mins that sorted the fault but for future info if anyone has this problem its worth giving both a try

When you say 'Drivers side control unit' do you mean the part with the switches attached in the drivers door armrest?
