Brand spanking new paintwork

Featured Replies

So I picked up the new motor yesterday (Race blue VRS CR hatchback) and so far well impressed. Planning the first detailing session on saturday if the rain holds off...

But the dilemma; I'm a firm believer in minimal intervention so don't want to be any more aggressive than absolutely required. Assuming I manage to get the dust and loose cr*p off with a rinse and shampoo should there be any need to polish before protecting?

Hoping to use products I already have in stock so if I can get away without a polish what would be the way to go? AG EGP - I know it's a great sealant over the top of SRP but what about on its own over naked paint? Or Megs step 3 carnuba wax? Gives a shine I like but won't last long...

So is it EGP or the Megs carnuba? Or a combination?

Cheers.

Congratulations on your new motor? Is it brand new from the dealer or just new to you and second hand?

If it's new from the dealer then the condition of the Skoda's I have detailed have been very good, it's key to remove the contaminents on the paintwork with a good wash process and if you feel there aren't any marks on the paintwork then polishing may not be necessary but I would recommend claying as a minimum.

It all depends how serious you want to go with the process and what products you have..........

I have had some experience with SRP and EGP but I am sure some of the regular users of this product can offer better advice in terms of layering, SRP for me contains filler's so will be dusty and maybe not required on the new paintwork.......

I agree, claying is a must.

As for SRP, chances are the dealer will give it a once over and chances are that you might find some light swirls.

SRP is dusty but only a bit, it's easy to go on and easy to buff off. Made much easier by machine.

You'll certainly not do the paintwork any harm by using SRP first.
