Guess the recaro sportsters would do, but how about nappa leather for the sides, real alcantara for the center section all bound with green stitching, it is a skoda after all!.

Hmmm the seat part doesnt look so comfy and is a little low for the snow monster........ how about we just change the seat part for something more fat and about the same height as stock?.

Tune in next week when i finalise the rail mounts :giggle:

-FULL DISCLOSURE-

Having a sample set made for the PQ35 platform (golf,tiguan,A3 etc.) and using the Yeti as a guinea pig.... because the stock seats aren't that great in corners.

The top part of the seat is Recaro but the lower part is custom made so its better suited for daily driving.

So racecar looks with regular seat comfort and driving position.

Since the seats are techincally a new model, i guess i need to name them????

Oh picture shown is just one i stole, get the real thing hopefully next friday B)

Totally impractical!

Totally impractical!

Why is that?

I get more rear seat room, more support with the side bolsters, less weight than the stock seat, almost stock seat height........... how are these impractical?.

They look awful..................and it looks more like a childs booster seat emoticon-0120-doh.gif

Could be useful if the passenger seatback folds right down??

Side bolsters will wear out quickly because you will rub them everytime you get in or out.

Weight difference will make hardly any difference to the performance of the vehicle.

Weight difference is probably negligable anyway.

Reduced rear view ability because of the shape and height.

Will incorrectly position the shoulder belt of the seat belt, as they are designed for 4 harness belts.

Do not contain the side air bags.

Personally, I love them! Maybe I wouldn't go as far as fitting them into a Yeti but I've regularly swapped to Recaros or Cobras in previous, 'quicker' cars and been very impressed with the results. :-) If that's your thing then enjoy them. Thanks for sharing. :-)

They are over the top but due to where i am based and what industry i am in, it is actually 4X cheaper than picking up a 2nd hand pair of GTI or R32 seats!.

Not sure if anyone knows this but these seats are optional on some of the coolest cars out, Golf R32, Golf R20, Audi RS4, Audi RS6. Audi R8 V10........ etc.

Thats why i have them, because its almost OEM.

And totally wasted on a Yeti. But a bit of fun all the same :p

RS4! Knew I'd seen them somewhere else before! Awesome, supportive seats. :-)

Well wasted on a diesel yeti

My Yeti is going through some.... changes over the next 6 months, changes that will not make the seats look so wasted ;)

I live on a mountain plain outside of Taipei, i ride some wicked twisty roads daily, so the seats and future mods make ALOT of sense.

I think they look great, but how would you solve the airbag problem?

Are you also going to retrim the rear seats in leather?

The rear seats get battered in my car as i carry cargo and often have them removed or flipped, plus i have 2 little terrors for sons (2 and 4 years old) so im going to trim them in PVC leather and fake alcantara, it will match the seats but feel like crap compared ;)

The airbag is a problem, i believe i can just loop the signal by jumpering a cable, still looking into that..... cant be that hard to do :wonder:

As for safety, i always found seat airbags to be a bit silly, i already have 6 airbags excluding the seats.

I am sure vinyl would be best with mucky ice cream / toys etc. (no experience peronally, yet)

I am sure it is different in Taiwan, but if the airbags are removed, and in an unlikely event (touch wood) you have an accident which involved side impact, how would injuries be paid out?

Taiwan isnt a stand up country with rules and regs like the uk, you would be lucky to get a single penny even with insurance.

The seats do look great, as do most Recaro's, but in a Yeti??

Sorry but if you think that by replacing the std seats with these that this will cure all your problems then I think you are going to be in for a surprise, the Yeti is not a fast road sports car, if you needed a car which had seats with much better lateral support then you should of bought a sportier car.

The airbags can easily be overcome by placing a resistor into the airbag loom, the hard bit is finding what size resistance you will need - hope you have access to VCDS, as it looks like you are going to need it.

I was expecting this reaction.... i can explain a bit.

  • When i bought the yeti it was $868,000nt, it has a punchy turbo engine and a double clutch gearbox, in Taiwan its wall to wall traffic with no speed higher than 70kph, highways are 110-90kph enforced by cameras (go over and you will get fined).
  • The 1.2 FLYS up to about 50kph as quick as most fast cars.
  • It seats my family nicely
  • Its well made and not japanese
  • Boot is huge which means i can use it for work
  • It has independant suspension and handles like a go-kart
  • More importantly you cant buy a sporty car new for less than $1,400,000nt

With my budget there was NOTHING on the market than could combine performance, handling, safety, quality and usefulness.

So i intend to use the Yeti as my blank canvas, over the next few months i will show that this car really can perform just like a sports car........... well its kinda obvious since its the same chasis/running gear as a golf,tt,a3.

And whos to say there wont be a Yeti RS released in the next year or so??

The OP's idea of using a comfortable bottom part of the chair suitable for daily driving with the shoulder supported back for enthusiastic corning, is excellent, I say. No discomfort for long drives, yet no gripping onto the steering wheel to stop the upper body being flung to either left or right when hard cornering!

The shoulder support part of the seat will not interfere with the normal seat belt - I know because in my younger days, I drove around with a similar seat using the normal belt.

The side air bags need to be carefully null'd so that the airbag system is still functional, but this is acheivable, I believe.

The average seat for the average car has to accommodate the average person who might not be slim enough to even fit in a Recaro seat. So, making the seat fit better to a sporty driving slim man as the OP may well be is actually very sensible.

I say WELL DONE to OP for sharing his brainwave. Now fit the seat, sort the airbag system and report back on the problems, solutions and experience! :)

Ah ha somebody read the whole post

Yes the bottom part of the seat is custom made to be more comfatable and also higher up, that way i dont sit on the floor which is useless on a 4x4 (should i say 4x2 :giggle: )

If anybody has sat in these seats before then i think they would understand what i mean by them being very comfy on the back but not so nice on the... rear area ;)

I believe there is an airbag version, but it needs to be modified to work with the VW electronics which is really complex, in fact i have stumbled onto a new problem:

The passanger seat has a weight sensor to tell the car that there is a passenger in the car and that the airbag should be switched on.

If i turn off the airbag i will still get a warning light as the weight sensor isnt there, this is a serious issue because that means in the event of an accident the passanger front airbag will not deploy!!!.

Maybe i have been told wrong????

I think they look great. And on most roads in most countries an Audi RS4 et al with the same seats can't go any faster than your Yeti anyway. So if it feels comfortable and looks good for you then why not?!

Weight sensors are standard on most cars these days so I'm sure Recaro's own fitting instructions will explain how to overcome this and the airbag problems?

I've had a Recaro seat in my cars for the last 11 years but now use it as my office chair (converted with a suitable base).

The reason for this is that Recaro do not produce a seat runner kit for the Yeti, plus the aforementioned problem (potentially) of insurance liability with a non airbag modification in today's PC world; sadly as I would dearly love to have a Recaro seat in Kevin.

The alternative for holding me in my place for spirited cornering is a much simpler and cheaper solution; a CG-Lock.

Pending-Change - good luck in your project, I hope it works out for you.

From what i have been led to believe, its very easy to fit an aftermarket seat into the PQ35 chasis, problem is the aformentioned airbag system.

As for this pc world we live in......... i dont live in it, Taiwan is pretty much the opposite of the uk which is why i moved there.

Traffic is so awful the car would never get an oportuity to deploy the anyway :giggle:

Well some good news and bad news.

Cant get these hybrid seats to work, the reclining system just doesnt connect well to the standard seat bottom :(

So instead i am having actual Recaro sportsters with a custom made base/sliders to raise the seat up some more.
