Soundpack Speakers

Featured Replies

One of mine (front offside Mid range) has developed an annoying vibration. If you press on the grille however it can be minimised.

Car's going in on Mon am so I can wait while the 'Mastertech' hooks it up to 'diagnostics' - he agrees with me that it's borked - if it shows as faulty he'll be allowed to order a replacement! SUK are apparently tight as DA's on warranty replacements

FFS, it's patently borked and a new speaker is about £30 according to the latest ETKA.

So that'll be 3 dealer trips (75 miles total and probably 5 hours of my time) - perhaps I should have just got one mail order and fitted it myself ?

Frustrating - just wait - I guarantee it'll be on 'back order'

One of mine (Rear nearside) has a loud buzz or vibration on certain tracks, usually heavyish bass. Pressing the panel helps. Will get it sorted soon.

Just found this: http://briskoda.net/...-at-the-dealer/ - maybe the door card(s) are the issue and not the speakers?

Certainly pressing on the door card stops the vibration - wonder if Skoda have a fix for this - seems like it's an issue they could be aware of?

I definitely say it's the door cards. Mine were perfect In terms of vibration, right up to around 10,000 miles. Now, certain tracks with a low to mid bass note cause vibration through a panel. I haven't looked at it properly and may just end up getting the dealer to look at it when it goes in for it's half year oil change end of next month. :-)

I did not like the sound and the crackling tweeters so I got rid of them and fitted some Alpine SPR-17S 17cm 300 Watts Component Speakers in the front &

Alpine SPR-17C 300 Watts 2-way speakers in the back with the addition of a Jbl amp hidden under the passenger seat I now have no sound issues from the poor tweeters , it's so much better.

Tell me more about how you mounted the SPR-17S. Did you have to use a spacer for the woofer? Did you fit the tweeters in the original mounting?

Yes do tell, i have some SPX-17REF's sitting on a shelf waiting to go in.

I believe i have to dremel the door panel or something???.

Interested to know how you attached and connected the amp, did you replace the OEM one or just connect to the HU. Have you got the bolero?

I connected a Alpine PDX-5 amp to my stock 'blues' stereo.

Very straight forwards, i used one of those phono convertors to take the signal from the stereo to the amp... thats it

Mounted the amp underneath my drives seat (tiny!) i use the amp for the ALpine type-x 10'' sub.

There's an ICE section elsewhere for you car audio anoraks

Anyhow it seems other owners have had similar issues on their Skodas (and other VAG cars) - seemingly related to the flexibility/thickness of the Skoda door cards - so aftermarket higher spec speakers would probably do nothing to resolve that!

Having paid Skoda £360 extra for the Soundpack (Amp + 4 speakers) I'm going to lay this firmly at Skodas door.

I've just been listening to a serial on R4 and some of the dialogue in that even caused the door cards to vibrate.

Elsewhere and on other vehicles folks have used 'lead' flashing tape to siffen the door cards?

I disconnected all the tweeters and fitted the alpines into the door card it's a bit tight behind the door cards with all the other control functions so I mounted them close to the others and have just left them there , it's almost impossible to retrofit anything into the original locations with the tweeters. The speakers have a huge area and can come out more than the 5mm mdf spacers I made which are necessary to clear the window operation as the spr's have much greater depth.

tweeter location

nice interior with new tweeters etc

Right - update!

I spent a very useful couple of hours this morning at my local dealers Farmers

Their Mastertech Steve MacDonald stripped down my drivers door and spent some considerable time isolating the source of the door card vibration - it appears to be the 'standard' large base speaker at the lower rear edge of the door, which does't seem to be able to handle the pumping base of Pete Tong's Ibiza mixes :)

Copious amounts of self adhesive acoustic foam applied to door card and a considerable improvement - we'll see how things progress now.

I have it in mind to treat the other 3 doors similarly as the next step and then possibly look @ an aftermarket upgraded speaker. Interestingly the speakers are held in just by 'pop' rivets!

Also noticed - and this is subject to an enquiry of SUK* - but the 'fader' defaults to 'front only' when turning the Bolero off and leaving the car for more than a few minutes!

Could you check yours please and report back?

Ta!

* Or I could always Google it :)

Nice update, thanks for that. :)

Im going to ask the dealer to sort mine. Id love to see photos of the door with the card off. Im actually happy to do this myself (I have a few sheets of dynomat left over from doing the old car), I just dont want to make it worse by removing and repalcing the door cards too many times.

I pm'd Tomcatdk for an update (http://briskoda.net/...-at-the-dealer/)

His dealer did the same as mine - but he reckons it is a known issue and we may need to keep pressuring Skoda for a proper fix?

I think I'll drop an email to Customer 'Services' ;)

Having paid £360 for the soundpack Upgrade I expect to be able to play my choons at a reasonable volume!

I totally agree. :-) please keep us up to date with any progress or responses from suk. :)

My fader resolutely sits on 'driver' as a standard setting for me and doesn't change; except that I don't ever turn the Bolero off. It stays on all the time except when I've removed the key.

Mind you will test to see what happens with Bolero 'off'.
