Scuffed book plastic on loan car

Featured Replies

Loan car has had boot plastic scuffed and to avoid being charged for damage (£100) is there any tricks to make it less obvious?

At the moment I'm thinking I may have to replace the boot plastic on the tailgate, which being BMW may be costly

I guess it all depends on the type of plastic used on those beemers and how badly scuffed..

If it's purely aesthetic and you havent disturbed the surface then maybe you might get away with using something like Armour all (I used to use it in my old cars to cover up a multitude of scrape marks), or failing that some plain ol WD40. At least you can spray a bit on, if it doesn't work then a soapy cloth can remove it. It if does work then you'll then have to do all the boot plastic so that it matches!

If you've taken big chunks out of it then maybe chips away can take a look .. at least their quotes are free. At least you have a couple of options, failing that worst case scenario - swallow hard, and break out the wallet :S

Some areas the pattern has been flattened is the best way I can describe it. Not really gouged or chunks taken out.

Just noticeable as it's gone greyish in these areas. Beemer plastic is very soft it seems, as in 3 years the Mondeo doesnt look that bad, and it's abused with tools, parts and slamming a bit harder if catches on something! But then it's plastic is grey to begin with.....

Looks like a call to local BMW parts desk :(

Black boot polish or smooth peanut butter

I'm sure that they wouldn't even notice to be honest.

I've never known them do more than check body, wheels and fuel.

just plead ignorance and call their bluff, ask to see the condition report for the area prior to being handed the car.

Car was new on arrival, so no one else but me could have done it sadly.

Doesn't make any difference.....I guarantee it will not be on the inspection sheet that the boot is to be inspected.

How did you get on with taking the Beemer back?

Being collected next week.

Furniture polish seems to mask it for a few hours, so.....

I have seen my dad spray on rattle can lacquer before and it has worked rather well tbh! It shouldn't because it is such a bodge job, but it does hide most things.

Well the car was fully examined, quite closely, but the 10 min warning before they arrived allowed a fresh application of polish which hid the scuffs very well. No interior damage recorded.

Only things noted were several stone chips, and an impossible to see chip on the passenger side windscreen. Marked as wear/tear.

Next time will certainly be more vigilant!
