A Pillar (windscreen) - is it plastic?

Are the black windscreen pillars made of plastic or another material?

I've got sratches along them and am looking at getting something to hide them., maybe Plastx.

They are plastic, and get binned when you have a new screen fitted.

Yip they are plastic - you will notice that if pushed side to side they move as they are in fact plastic covers.

Why would you bin them. They just unscrew and lift off.

Thanks lads, PlastX it will be then :D

They're about £12 each from Skoda.

I see where you are coming from. I don't think that is the norm though as removal is easy without damaging them.

Screen was fom Autoglass - maybe they supply new covers due to previous problems with damage during removal/refitting?

Took the PlastX to them and they've come up a treat :)

Sorry for the thread revival, I'm looking at installing a dedicated DAB aerial behind the plastic a pillar cover, how do you remove them?

Cheers

Aren't there screws along the inner doorjamb??

Yes there are ;)

2 Torx screws

Yes there are ;)

2 Torx screws

4 Torx ;)

have them done in carbon wrap they look good

Yes it was 4 T25 torx screws.

With regards to getting a DAB aerial behind there, I think I will be really pushing it.

There is not as much room behind that panel as I thought there would be, very tight fit.

Can anyone one please advise in detail how to remove them? I wish to try locating the tweeter in another position as it's too harsh reflecting the sound across the windscreen.

Fab, the guys are talking about the 'exterior' plastic 'A' frame coverings...the black shiny ones on the outside of the car.

I think I read somewhere, that you used 2 x Poorboy's Black Hole Glaze on your black frame coverings, but I am not sure. True?

Gently pull it ;)

Here you can see the clips

Thank you, irfant! Much appreciated :-)

What are those wires at the top of the picture - should I be concerned about these when I remove the A Pillar? I also have a Bluetooth microphone behind this pillar so I hope it doesn't drop out or something. My plan is to try the tweeters out on TOP of the grill and pointing inwards to reduce the excess hardness I get in the sound now. What do you think?

Had a new windscreen on mine and as Estate Man says, the old plastic covers were re used. If the scratches are not deep they can be removed by using a DA polisher on them with some fine finish polish and they come up a treat.

I have had two new windscreens on my Fabia 2 1.9 TDI Estate before I traded it and I am sure the exterior black windscreen plastic pillars were not renewed because the black exterior plastic covers become loose with being removed / refitted. This is due to the white plastic housing for the torx screws getting wider with removal which I think are a push fit into the large black plastic. Hope this make sense?

when I had the screen replaced on my roomster the plastics shattered and had to have new ones fitted, they were about 4 years old, so not sure if the become more brittle with age

The plastic windscreen trims can be polished with whatever you do the rest of the car , normal car polish is fine and probably less abrasive then plasx

You can wax them as well
