Squeak to awful screaching noise in two short trips

Featured Replies

Car worried me today, road near me recently resurfaced with loose chippings.

I noticed a squeak as I drove yesterday, it did it going both forward & backwards,

couldn't see anything wrong, went out this morning, squeak got louder, then seemed to clear,

then became deafening in seconds, as if someone was sawing through the car!!

As I got home, it cleared again, & has been ok ever since, a neighbour had a look at the n/s/f caliper,

brake pads were sticking up slightly, he pushed them down, & a stone from the resurfaced road fell out!!

There is a lot of brake dust on the disk & wheel now, going to be getting it checked out asap!!

Another problem from road chippings is that a stone can get caught up in the coil springs - leads to a horrible clonk/sproing going over bumps as it fouls the movement.

Does alarm you though hearing those sort of noises. Had a few stones caught in the shield that sits behind the brake set up, that makes an interesting noise lol, hearing it bouncing around.

But not as bad as the time when swmbo had a brake pad shear off, that was a scream.
