Trip comp 1 tracks your current journey and resets itself about an hour after turning the ignition off.

Trip comp 2 tracks lifetime* (or until you manually reset it) stats.

Press the button on the underside of the stalk to switch btwn them.

Sheesh!

*Though some owners of newer cars such have yours have noticed that 2 will reset itself regardless after ~20hrs driving time.

Trip 2 logs the last 100 hours, not lifetime.

I remember reading, but can't find it now, that there was a bug on some models causing it to reset to 0 before 100h.

100hrs eh? Am sure mine has been going for longer than that, will check later!

Edit: should qualify this by stating mine's an older car without maxidot, so may be different!

Trip 2 logs the last 100 hours, not lifetime.

The log 2 goes up to 9999miles or 99hrs 59sec whichever comes first - though you need an average speed of 100mph to hit the 9999 mile reset first!

That will be the non-maxidot FL Octavias that reset Log 2 after a mere 20hrs.

Right, it sounds like you're just looking at the live mpg reading!

pressing the rocker switch down once more (assuming it's the same as non-maxi) will get you to the overall average setting.

the live one changes up and down when im driving...drive like a saint and it sits about 40mpg the next setting down just shows _ _ _ !!

Ok, if you are only flicking through the options using the rocker switch on the end of the stalk you should have two MPG displays.

One says simply "MPG". If you are sitting stationary this will display -----. Once you move it will display your instantaneous MPG (so the figure will change every 2 seconds or so and can swing drmatically from single figures to triple figures from one minute to the next, depending on how you are driving.

The other one says "OMPG" where the "O" is actually a circle with a line through it. This is the symbol for average.

If you switch the car off for more than two hours, this resets itself and will display -----. Then when you move off again, after a few hundred yards it will display the average MPG of your trip. Because this is an average the figures will change slower. It keeps a running average going until you switch the car off for more than two hours.

When you are on this average MPG screen you will see a little '1' in the top right of the screen.

If you press the switch on the bottom of the stalk the '1' will change to a '2'.

This is now your long term average MPG. It's the same as the other one except it doesn't reset itself when you switch the car off. This is the one which will reset at 100 hours as mentioned above.

In either mode you can manually reset by holding in the button on the bottom.

It sounds to me like the one you think is 'live' is actually the trip average and you're only looking at the live one when you are stationary, hence why it always says ---.

Stevo think your right...think im confusing the two!! I thought that the one your saying is the average one was the live one!!..il have a play about with it later on the way home!!...as a matter of interest why is the live one on there when it fluctuates so widley?

cheers

It's so you can see how economically you're driving I guess i.e going along the motorway you can see what effect putting your foot down will have.

To be honest though, you're right it's pretty useless.

The way I use the computer is I will always have the '1' average displayed so I can see what I'm getting on my current trip.

I reset the 2 average every time I fill up and check it every so often to see what I'm averaging over the tank of diesel.

On my previous Octavia and on my current Yeti, the Maxidot reading was about 10% out. I have had the Yeti one altered so it is generally much more accurate now.

If you want to get the best mpg then have it on the live reading and keep the mpg over 100mpgemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Alternatively, floor the throttle and you will see a lot less less than 10mpgemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

The last 100 hours you refer to, is this 100 hours of driving or 100 hours including stationary time in the garage etc.... I'm hoping you will say of driving time.

p.s. I have the maxidot option on a 2011 Octy

It's driving time. Checked mine earlier and I'm at 91hrs!

I was hoping you'd say that. How do I check how many hours i'm running on ?

Just keep cycling through the trip comp using the rocker switch, ensuring you're on ch2 (where it's applicable).

It's time with the ignition switched on. Not neccessarily the engine on, just the ignition to position 2.

So if you sit in the car while your other half is in the shops and you have the ignition switched on, the time will keep going up (and your average speed will go down).
