Oil.....I suppose.

I used Millers XFE in the ZX for the whole time I owned it. Cost a bit more but well worth it...

I see that Millers Diesel Clean Plus is now called Diesel Power Plus (or has it always been?) - anyway, I had thought about using a fuel additive but wasn't sure whether this was ok for the PD engine. Skoda do say somewhere in the manuals that the use of any additive could invalidate the warranty.

I'd never put Slick in, but I think I'll give the Power Plus a go.

Thanks, awt41

I hope to borrow one of those road-angels at the next meet, to try and see if this is right. I'm going to try and tank up on BP/Esso diesel for a while to see what that does. BTW, my 40K service involves changing the filters I believe, all three of them... whats that? air, fuel, and ..... dunno.

Pollen.

I disagree with the book as I think air filters should be changed annually or 10,000 miles regardless.

Cheers

Yep - my air filter was changed during my remap because it was filthy. It was only just short of the 40k miles recommended but I reckon it should have been changed at 20k at the latest. At

Re my previous post about using Millers Diesel Power Plus:

I e-mailed Millers Oils to ask if it was OK to use on PD engines.

They have just replied stating that they have 4 fleet cars running on this product, with very good results.

So - I will give it a go and report back on this thread.

Regards to all, awt41

I have used Millers diesel clean plus (or what ever its called now) and never had a problem, and that includes the TDI of my old Octy and currently in my PD130 Superb. All it does is add lubrication to the fuel to help maintain the pump and stuff and also increase the cetane rating to help combustion...I notice when I dont have any to put in with the fuel( like now grrrr)

Cheers

Where can you get this miller's stuff from? Halfords? I may try it in my TDI, but I've never really been disappointed at any time with its performance. However, if it means keeping bits and pieces working well inside the engine, then I may try it!

Jason - Look Miller's web site at http://www.millersoils.co.uk/

If you enter your postcode, they find the nearest stockist for you.

Millers has additives that help to lubricate the fuel pump and other pieces as low sulphur diesel also means low lubrication for your fuel pump etc, as the sulphur acted as the lubricant just as lead did in petrol previously.

You only use a small amount when you fill ( about 1 measure per 20 litres) so it each bottle should last a while, unless you drive a Superb and have a fuel tank that takes 62 litres each fill

I posted this a while back- just ran out of fuel today 535 miles on the clock and it said I had 25 left. Not bad from a 45 litre tank.

About a month ago I started using Millers Diesel Power Plus as an additive & said I would report back on the results:

Well, the results are:

Smoother, much quieter engine + improved mpg.

I don't know what's in it but it works!

I used Millers diesel additive at well and yes, it did seem to make a difference.

The other point I can make (not sure if mentioned above) is that the roadtests of the original VAG PD engine (the 115bhp version in the Golf) varied considerably in refinement - some were rated as noisy - something to do with variations with the injectors apparently.

This should have been sorted out by the time the 130 and 100 PD came out, but maybe not ?

To be honest I always found the diesel rattle and grumble a small price to pay for the better fuel consumption and motorway long-leggedness !

To add to what Fab said alot of the motoring rags have said that the PD engines tend to be more noisey for the higher output power.

I think the PDs are also a little noiser than the original 90/110 diesels due to the pumps shutting.

Without doubt the PD engines are noisier and vibrate more, but also remember that the previous TDI,s varied in noise and vibration depending on what model it was in, with the Octy being about the best belive it or not.

Ultimately the extra grunt, pull economy and cleanliness are worth the slight extra noise and vibration. Anyway, you have to feel something when your cruising the motorway at 96mph and the engines doing 3000rpm. Did I just say that??

535 miles from a tank. I'm now very lucky indeed to get beyond 450 miles from a tank wihtout risking it running down to empty. I shouldn't be so tight anyway, as the emotional downside of paying for more fuel is offset by the emotional high of cornering at speed ( especially when being chased by a surprised Golf GTI )

All in all, I'm not going to be putting my old steels (rotting in a corner of the garage) back on any time soon...

I've just got Skoda 14" alloys. Can't replace them without the insurance company having several fits, but the economy is going strong. Looking at another 500 miles+ tank this time too. 470 and still going which is a surprise since most of the running has been town with A/C on full!
