Are you replacing the head gasket because it has blown or just for peace of mind you are replacing it?If it has blown I would be taking the head to be skimmed so its a nice flat surface once again otherwise you will just be stripping it again in no time to replace it once again.

No special tools required, would agree about getting it skimmed if you can. Remember if you do to reset the tappets to allow for the shorter engine.

Only takes a couple of hours tops.

wots the rounds things on the side off the head as thats where the water is comin out off

Thermostat housing

Is there a step by step anywhere for changing the head gasket? I am doing mine at the weekend today, and I have been looking on the net, but none are apparent!

Same thing for the timing belt. I am confident that I can do it, but I am worrying that there is something that I miss that is stupid.

Also need the torque/Pounds per square inch for the head bolts.

This question worries me badly, are you absolutely sure you can successfully undertake this job?

Also need the torque/Pounds per square inch for the head bolts.

Since you will be using brand new stretch bolts which come complete with installation instructions this isn't really a relevant question. Unless you won't in which case I find myself worrying again!

You torque them first then angle turn them.

If the water is coming out of the thermostat that's nothing to do with the headgasket (unless you ran it in a leaking state and cooked the engine).

thats the round thing i was talkin about there is one on both sides and that is where the water is comin out from

any help would be very greatfull

They are core plugs.

Well surely the guy only has to fit new core plugs and NOT a cylinder head gasket !

DB.

Depends if you can get to core plugs in situ, can honestly say I've never seen any leak before on an MPi. Unless it's been filled with just water or low antifreeze at some point and the water jacket froze.

to be onest my brother in law the car tech aka( a** hole )change my water pump and i dont remember him use anti freeze and with the bad winter we had i bet that did not help where would i get them from as i need 2 off them then if i could get away with fitting them with out removerin the head that would be cool if not i have the gasket already anyway.

when i but the head back on with new bolts i torque them first then angle turn them i need and angle torque wrench where would be the best place to get one

Torque wrench, you can get for around £16, Screwfix, Toolstation, Argos - that should be adequate enough for the purposes, and TBH to get a calibrated one probably isn't worth the cost. Just make sure you slacken off the adjuster after using it and it will stay reasonably accurate. Angle turning, I would personally just use some sort of marker, or a piece of paper with a hole in, rather than buy a tool for it, and get it near as. A breaker bar would help measure the angles with more precision, and help crack off the old head bolts.
