Yes has been covered manytimes but here is my experience.

I have a Fabia vrs and first thing was to replace my dipped beams with Philips X-treme Vision H7's.

This was a great improvement.

However I have now replaced these Philips bulbs with a set of HIDs and you just would not belive the how much this has inproved the lights.

You will here that this is illegal and you will fail the MOT but that will be three years from now and provided your lights are correctly set (and you have projector headlamps)then I do not anticipate any problems.

Hope this helps.

So there def h7's?

Yes they are definately H7's on vrs.

Check your hand book page 200

Brilliant mate, you know I spent ages looking through that bloody thing and couldn't see it, guess I need to pay attention more :op

I have a set of HID's out of my old motor that are h7's... Now have two options.

Are the bulbs easy enough to get into to replace?

Bulbs are easy to replace.

Take off rubber cover grip bulb holder and turn towards the passengers side.

They are a bit tight but should turn ok.

HID's are a bu**** to fit.

The problem with doing a straight swap with HIDs is that there's no auto-levelling so every little dint in the road you go over it will spray into oncoming traffic - which isn't pleasant. There are enough numpties on the road with illegal HIDs - so think carefully before making it + 1 B)

Buy either Phillips or Osram 90% or 100% extreme, nightbreaker type bulbs...I've always had the brightest bulbs from either of these manufacturers and they are the best...not cheap but well worth it!! I've done all the three sets of front bulbs (High beam, dipped beam, fogs) and with them all on it's like daylight!!!! Perfect for the backroads!!! B)

Try this lot;

I put in a pair of H7 x 100 Watt bulbs, (not the blue tint ones) on low-beam/ dipped headlights.

Gonna put same H7 x 100 Watt bulbs in the under-front bumper fog-lights.

Have some H3 x 100 Watt bulbs for the main/ high beam when I get the time.

Just to add bulbs were as said 55watts all round, but changed them to 100Watts.

As long as there not set too high (and not blinding oncoming traffic) as I can lower or raise height level with little gizmo knurl switch (Skoda fitted as norm) can't see (literally) a problem.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

If fitting HID without be able to raise/lower beam levels seems more of a liability in blinding oncoming traffic with even a brighter light, than I have. !!

Car has just been through an MOT so not a problem.!!

What is the original wattage?? Caus' that looks alot higher than is should be which will affect the wiring, headlanp unit etc!!! And is it road legal???? B)

EDIT

H3 & H7 standard wattage is 55w...so you are doubling the wattage to 100w??...all the bulbs at 100w in those fitments that I've ever seen are not road legal!!!!!

Correct. These type of bulbs are normally named 'Rally bulbs' and probably have "For off-road use Only" on the box.

Cant argue about the legal aspect but FYI there is no self leveling systems that compensates for bumps in the road, on most cars the auto leveling only works when the car is standing still for longer then ~5 seconds. The system is made that way to prevent it from flipping the lights everytime you hit a bumb on the road wich would trash the leveling system in at most a year (remember constant flipping due to bumpy roads).

PIAA produce an H7 bulb (Night Tech Bulbs) which are rated at 55W but give light output equivalent to 125w

These bulbs are E marked for road use.
