Oil Temp

Featured Replies

Hi all, a quick question.

On the mxidot, if I select Oil Temp all I get is a series of dashes ----. No matter how far I have travelled no temp is on the read out. Is this correct or is it just that there is no problem?

Everything else seems fine.

Thanks.

I have the 2.0 170HP TDI Combi Elegance. The oil temp gives dashes when cold after a decent run the temp should read 90 to 100+c. Check that it is ticked in menu or have dealer check.

The oil temp should display from 50C upwards. As said above, normal temp is between 90-100C. Could be worth a trip to the dealer :)

Thanks for the replies, will keep an eye on as even after 100 miles no reading. Perhaps a first service job.

Under normal driving, I usually get a readout after approx 3 miles or so...

We have had this discussion before in the Octavia forum. Do you have your car set to fixed servicing as the oil temp will not be displayed if you do so?

It can be displayed if your on fixed, however when setting to fixed it defaults to off, it can however be turned back on individually.

I didn't know it took time to warm up :-)

But I turned off Oil Temp as there was no added value as the Water Temp dial does it for me. Means 1 less item to scroll through when browsing more useful data

That's up to you, but on my Swedish registered Golf Ethanol and on the work diesel versions, the water temperature is up in no time. However the oil temperature doesn't even register for quite a few miles. I think the longest it took to get up to normal temperature ie >90C was 20km, but it was a rather cold morning, fair bit below -20C.

Even in summer 10/12km before oil is warmed through from a clock cold start.

For information on my 1.8Tsi Scout the temp usually reads between 103 and 107.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but is there an upper limit on what the oil temperature should be?

Whilst towing, up a long hill, I've seen it as high as 133degC, and wondered at what temperature I should be worried?

My Superb 2.0 TSI is between 95-103 degrees, depending of my driving :) it starts displaying the temperature from 50 degrees as stated here before.

My 2009 1.8 TSI DSG Superb doesn't have this option in the maxidot (or wherever). Can it be activated at the local dealer? Is it a post-2009 function? Or is it hidden somewhere in the menu?

Thanks in advance

So what value is this at high temperatures? At high temperatures the oil molecule in synthetic oils are far more stable and degenerate less. This means not only do synthetic oils maintain lubrication integrity, they continue to cool and clean engine components at constant temperatures of up to 180°C, and can handle short term temperatures in excess of 200°C.

New Combi cr170 4x4 combi delivered with servicing set to variable. As I will do about 10,000 miles per year dealer has changed servicing schedule to fixed. I have now lost the 'oil temperature' reading on the MFD. I have trawled through the settings system but I cannot find a way of getting it back. Is the a job for the dealer or is there a way I can get it back?

Thanks

Chris

Same question I did several months ago. I'm still waiting for solving the mistery...
