Paint chips due to inconsiderate xxxx

Featured Replies

Just been out to the Yeti to find the passenger door has four parallel deep chips in the paint where it looks like some a hole has let there trolley hit car. Looks like a v slight dent too.

Does it sound like something a touch up pen could deal with or will it look worse? It taken the steel silver off and down to a black layer.

Sorry to hear about the chips, there's some right pr**s out there.

I've used touch up sticks for similar things in the past and as long as you get a good colour match they turn up really good (if you have a steady hand when applying the paint that is!) Ssome touch up sticks come with a tip that is way too big so I would invest in a very fine brush or even just use the tip of a food stick which works suprisingly well. Have you got any pictures of the chips?

Regards

Marc

Not a great picture. I cleaned up the area with polish and then a layer of quick detailer, the reflection meant focusing a mare and the image a bit poor

Doesn't look much like a trolley wound to me. Looks like it could be a bicycle handlebar to me. Either way, bad luck. Touch up paint & lacquer will stop any ingress of rust, etc, but doubtful to seriously hide the marks unless you use someone like chipsaway.

Have you (or anyone else) used chips away before? Reasonable rates?

Never used chips away but heard good reviews about it.

Sorry to hear of the chips, that is exactly why I park miles away from everyone and everything

I do as well. Seems no matter where I park I end up surrounded when I come back to the car.

Very true that, no matter where you park you're guarenteed to have at least one car next to you when you come back, very annoying!

If you're going to give it a go yourself I'd recommend touching up the black spots then use a cutting compound once it's been left a day or so, but chips away might be your best option with that, rates are fairly good I hear, couldn't quote one though.

Cheers all. Think I'll give it a go with touch up from Skoda. I've got some farleca g3 and assorted polishes etc in the garage. Figure if I do a rubbish job chips away should be able to sort it.

Happens all the time, I go to the other end of the carpark, miles from the store, miles from any other car, only to return to find some lwb transit or similar parked right next to me.

Try parking over 2 bays, this stops idiots hitting your doors

Or pick a spot next to a clean, decent looking/expensive car as they are 'normally' careful.

You are absolutely right, I have come to two conclusions either my car is a huge magnet that draws other cars towards it or some people have a herd instinct and have to gather close to others for comfort or perhaps neatness. As someone else has suggested I do sometimes straddle a space to prevent close encounters. I usually find on supermarket car parks that parking as far away from the entrance doors as you can shakes off the type of lazy couldn't give a toss p****ks that are likely culprits :swear:

Used Chipsaway on 2 cars, Vauxhall Astra before I sold it to get a Mazda 3, and again on the Mazda before I px'd it for a Yeti. Shallow scrstches and even some dents got sorted quite well. May need more drastic treatment if you've got rust coming through though

+1 however I did get fined twice for parking over 2 bays

I once found a car parked next to mine so close they could not physically open the driver's door.

They must have climbed out the passenger side as luckily their was no damage on mine.

Parked away from everyone else and there were loads of other spaces nearby.

Some people just need a right good kick up the arse!
