I'll be looking to move on from my mk1 vrs pretty soon and the mk2 is an option that's on my list of cars.

Now I don't like keeping things standard for to long so I'm asking you kind folk what upgrades work best ie exhaust, air filter/ind kit, dv's, suspension, fmic etc you use/recommend? And what sort Of power figures I'll see with these and a remap?

I'd be looking at 300bhp(ish) or as near as, but on a sensible budget for now, no turbo changes just yet :giggle:

OEM wheels (Zeniths) are ET42 IIRC?

The max you'd be looking at on a TFSI with a K03 (standard) turbo and all the bolt ons plus a Revo / Shark remap is about 280bhp. With a K04 and supporting mods you're looking at 330bhp+

I would go 3" downpipe & high flow cat or decat, fuel pump internals upgrade and a CAI + DNA stage 3 map = 280 bhp.

300BHP will be pretty much the limit on a ko3.

DP, full exhaust, coilovers and poss fuel pump internals would be my recommendation as a sound starting point.

Remap - Revo or Shark Performance

Air Intake - EVOMS Cold Air Intake

Exhaust - Pipewerx or Milltek

Fuel pump (for stage 2 gains allowing 280bhp) - APR or Autotech (Autotech is far cheaper)

I may be wrong but I thought Zeniths were 7.5x18 ET 51?

Has anyone on here managed to break the 280bhp mark with a shark map out of interest? On a Dyno dynamics RR obviously.

You will spend a fair chunk of cash getting extra power and the max you will get is about 280ish bhp from the K03. To get that sort of power you need an after market airfilter, Sports cat Downpipe, uprated HPFP, D rev Diverter valve, Latest rev PCV valve or BSH revamp/Forge catchcan etc. Stage 3 remap, I know you go to Ben so Id stick with Shark. You will need around £2500 to do that and if you want you can fit an uprated intercooler to stop the heatsoak and they are between £500 to £1000 for different types. Some fit the S3 intercooler and others the Forge Twintercooler or THS intercooler. There are so many different options to go for! Or you can do what I am planning on doing is fiting the K04 and just fitting the S3 injectors with the diverter valve relocation kit. This should give me around 280 to 300bhp as it will be similar to the ED30 golfs and only be about £1500 in total with the new map!

If you want to see what a Shark Stage 1 car does then let me know as I live local to Mansfield. Just a note, If you are staying K03 I wouldnt fit anything larger than a 2.75 inch Downpipe as you lose low end torque with the 3inch. Ive been chatting to a few MK5 boys and the say that they lost low end power with the 3inch and changed it for a miltek 2.75 inch instead. If you are going k04 then the 3inch will be fine.

This is what I was looking for, SWMBO wants a focus st which I've worked out would cost £1800 for 300bhp!

But I can't fault my mk1 vrs on anything so I'd like to move onto a mk2 and try for the same bhp. The st is probably dearer to buy so that'd work in my favour I guess :giggle:

I know what you are saying and the 3inch is good for peak power but the few who I have spoken to say they lost the bottom end torque and their cars were slower on the uptake. That is why Miltek opted for the 2.75inch and AWE the 2.5 inch. As a guide, 2.5inches is good up to 350bhp and anything more will need a 2.75 plus inch exhaust. But different people have different theories on what works best. I go with what people have tested and experienced on their own cars as every engine is different and responds differently to tuning. However it is a good idea to go 1/4 inch larger than needed in most cases.

The question I ask is How often do we drive at 4500rpms and above everyday? Id say for the majority less than 10% and the other 90% is spent in the low to mid range, hence why the boys who fitted the 3inch downpipes lost that low end power and their cars performed slower.

I have read the article and agree with the theory. Also it does point out that smaller turbos are more sensitive with the backpressure downstream of the turbine and the K03 is not a big turbo. By comparison to my Mk1 FRS it is very small indeed!

The ST is a good car and my friend has the Pumaspeed 305bhp pack on his car. He says that he likes the car but it is heavy and in a much higher tax bracket. He averages 20-25mpg going quick or slow. I still prefer the Octy as its a good all rounder and can be made better with a few tweaks!

Yeah you may well be right but when the car is at its maximum tune you need to keep EGTs as low as possible to prevent timing pull, I would not like to risk higher timing pull if I can possibly prevent it.

I guess I believe that the faster you get air in and out of a turbo car the better but I agree you don't need a big downpipe for 90% of the time :yes:

What kind of MAP sensor do you use for this conversion? (200 HP or 265 HP Audi S3)

I think the OEM MAP (200 HP) can read 2550 mbar, how much pressure works the K04 on 300 HP?

Who ever thinks 300hp is achievable on k03 is living in cookoo land. This is what I would say is the maximum results you could expectif your being realistic

Stage 1 >245hp

Stage 2 >265hp with down pipe and intake (250ish if std intake)

Stage 2+ >275hp with tbe, intake and intercooler (280-285hp achievable with a decat exhaust)

Timmys made 274hp with a 200cell tbe

Shark_90's car made 271hp but running lower boost as it was still running the standard intercool. This figures are impressive when you consider it was 30degrees at GTI International when that was ran. Id bet if yours was running the 200cellncat you would drop'about 5-8hp

Never had mine on dd rollers and made more but was micky mouse innacurate results imo

It was 14c air temp when Tim had his and 23c air temp when I had mine. As you can see by my logs I am running naff all boost at high rpm. I think a colder day would have squeezed a bit more out ;)

But your extra 5hp power is a prob a result of the decat. Not sure if you read hurdys decat thread, but he made around 5hp peak gains, but huge gains in the mid range. You know you can't deny that if you went back to a 200cell cat you would loose power. Maybe having the decat allows you to run less boost as there's not as much of an exhaust restriction.

Id say they would all'be similar if ran on the same rr day though and on the road you would nit notice any difference as low as 5hp

You will be getting sub 20mpg from a ST running 300bhp, so you need to figure riduclous running costs in to the budget! :o

My st was horrifc on fuel. ST will max out and ever so slightly shy of 300hp on a dd rolling road. You will of course make more on other rollers, but I only use dd rollers as they are consistent with eacj other so its all relevant. This is the same deal with the VXR as well.

The vRS at stage 2+ can keep with a focus rs on a straight bit of road, so the extra power isn't everything. You'll be making over 270hp from 4500rpm on wards. That's why it keeps up with the Rs as peak figures don't tell the whole story. But the best part is whilst you can still keep up, your also hugely more eficient on fuel that the 2.5T is even in std guise.

I know from my car that a stage 2 vxr with 295hp, a stage 2 focus ST with 297hp a focus RS with 300hp all perform the same as the TFSI with 275-280hp. That's despite the octavia being nearly 1.5ton.

I think I might buy another octavia tbh, when nodded its by far the best all round hot hatch
