TDI.1.4 Pre-facelift

Featured Replies

There has been an annoying dashboard rattle on my Father's 1.4 TDI since he bought it. Mainly a low-level (extremely annoying) buzzing from the dashboard on poor surfaced and even fairly smooth roads. Very grating over almost 30,000 miles. It has proved impossible to find or fix. Until today when driving through South Scotland on a country road. When rather than groping the dash yet again for the noise I applied, instead, a little pressure on the base of the rear view centre screen mirror. Immediately the buzzing stopped. Completely. Strange - it sounded as if it was definitely coming from the dashboard.

The mirror will be re-fixed at the next service. The source of the rattle is found! May peace/quiet reign. If you are experiencing dash rattles yourself, try it.

My passenger head rest buzzes as I found the other day

You sure its the headrest? if so, remove it and look at the end of the metal spikes... They should have little rubber grommets/bungs on the ends. These are there to help stop resonance through the headrest.

Another thing, it could be the seat belt bracket, next to your ear! Try wedging your finger in there a bit, to see if the buzzing stops. If so, now you need a permanent fix!

Which can be achieved by cutting off one of your fingers and wedging it in the hole permanently!! Seriously...it would work....:giggle:
