Rear Hatch auto locking.

Featured Replies

Quite often we'll park up in the supermarket car park - lock it - I'll pop down the road.....and return to the car, unlock it with the remote, get in it and amuse myself while the good lady does the shopping. Then she will return to the car - go to hatchback to put the bags in...........and it'll be locked. That's the point of my question. I've unlocked the doors in order to get in myself, but when SHE approaches it - AND I'm still inside the car - the boot's locked, and I seem to have to remove the key from the ignition and operate the 'Unlock' button in order to unlock the boot.

Have scoured the handbook but have obviously missed something.

PS. No comments about making the wife do the shopping while I listen to Gardeners Question Time please.......that's the way she likes it! :)

You can just press the unlock button under the handbrake when she approaches!

Do you have selective unlocking? One press only unlocks driver's door and a second press unlocks the rest? Do you perhaps only press it once and thus your door is open but the rest of the doors and the boot is not?

Ah, Johann.....knew you'd have come up with an answer - and you did!

Certainly it had escaped me that I could press the button in question...why didn't I think of that?

I honestly haven't set Maxine Dottingham to open just the drivers door; in fact I remember selecting 'all cabin doors to open' But will go and check again. I've imagined the answer lies in the settings, but they've beaten me up till now on this particular oddity.

BTW. You're a coffee lover, J? You being a lover of nice, well made gadgety things I couldn't imagine you with anything less than a Nuova Simonelli and more likely an Izzo or Rocket! :)

Oh I am. :giggle: And it is an Ascaso Dream in polished silver actually. £500 worth of the best coffee goodness. Why you asking?!

Only coz I do like a half-decent coffee myself and treated myself to, firstly, a little Gaggia Classic + Rancilio Rocky and, more recently, a N. Simonelli Oscar. (Not remotely shiny or pretty but eminently capable). We have a bean roastery ( ? ) not far away in Budleigh Salterton and get them in 2kg packs from them. ( 5 at a time ! ) Can't imagine you, being the barista you are, not having a decent grinder too!

I do again. Burr grinder is the ONLY way to go so it does not matter what make you buy as long as it does not shred the beans but actually squeezes them with the burr grinding machanism. Mine is just a standard Dualit one. £70 or so and far far inferior to your Rancilio Rocky. Wow. Now THAT is a grinder!

Next time around your way it seems I know where I should head for some decent coffee!

Indeed, very much so, please do. But despite my best efforts my cappuccino is never as nice as that obtainable in some of coffee outlets and restaurants that I visit. Mainly due, I think, to our use of skimmed rather than half of full fat. And the reason for skimmed is twofold - firstly, I always use Cravendale and the skimmed always froths best (for me, at least) but mainly, we have two or three 'caps' a day and I'm fat and ugly enough without the full fat, or even the half fat and so there's hardly any guilt built in to the cup with skimmed. I did go to a B & B in Derbyshire, on a farm, and the lady said they used skimmed to wash the pipes out after they've made proper milk!

I think my 'unmilked' coffee is probably good enough to pass muster but I won't be entering it in to any competitions to find out. (Modesty prevents further self praise but I think it's drinkable :) )

PS. There are many who consider the Baratza Vario / Mahlkonig (same machine, different name) to have ousted the Rocky from it's place as a good value but capable machine....but the Rocky will last for ever where the other might not.

Well this is YOUR thread so I think we'll be alowed to "drift".

My Dualit grinder won't last long I know. Unlike the lovely heavy real metal silver bits on my Dualit DAB radio the silver bits on the grinder is silver plastic. Cheap and nasty - but it grinds well so hey ho.

As to milk. I only use the green semi skimmed too and it froths ok. Coffee taste in total I find is in the beans... I use Waitrose own label number 3. Cheaper than you might expect too... Makes yummy cappuccinos!

Writing about Dualit, our toaster died recently and we bought a new one. By golly are they expensive, but they are British and all parts available. So we took out a second mortgage and bought the 'original' one with mechanical timer & 4 slice capacity. Also picked up a toastie cage. I have never tasted toasties as good as these....

Back on topic......

You can also have just the drivers side open.

The only one that enables you to open the rear hatch is if 1 click on the remote opens all doors. If not then you have to use the unlock button.

Great thing about these doors is that you can open with one pull of interoir door handle, whereas the old Octavia needed 2 pulls of the door handle to open....

Set the Maxidot to Auto Unlock. When she gets out the doors (including the boot) unlock themselves.

"Set the Maxidot to Auto Unlock. When she gets out the doors (including the boot) unlock themselves".......I actually thought that's what was happening and what seemed to be the case, I thought.

Just checked. It was on :-

MANUAL = 'All Doors' was checked

and AUTOMATIC = No boxes checked, so I checked the 'Auto Open' box.

Will get the manual out again to see what I've done.

Thanks.

No, I can't find in the book where it tells me what the "Manual" and "Automatic" door settings do.

I go "DOOR OPEN"

then "either "MANUAL" or "AUTOMATIC"

In "MANUAL", I've grasped that it and it's set to "ALL DOORS"

In "AUTOMATIC" you have the option of ticking "Auto Open" or "Auto Close" and whilst I think I might, at some point, have understood those two, I can't now remember what they do.

I submit.

Someone tell me.

Please..............

Hadn't thought of that. Top Man!

Re. Beans.

I've also tried loads of supermarket beans with varying degrees of success (including Asda's own make which they use in their own coffee machines in their cafe's). Sometimes used to mix and match different makes and strengths but having got a local supplier who roasts his own, I'm OK with his. Good that you're settled on the Waitrose beans though.

BUT

Whatever you do don't mention supermarket beans on www.home-barista.com ( http://www.home-barista.com/forums/ )

If you haven't visited their forums, do so and have your eyes opened to the finer points of coffee - American style.

Be warned. They're keen!!!!

I think this is covered on page 40, but doesn't that refer to the car locking itself when moving if you set 'Automatic Closing' and if you DON'T tick it what's the point of ticking Automatic Opening?

I'm but a simple man with cloth for brains.

Auto Close locks the doors once you reach a certain speed. Useful as it means the boot is locked when you are driving along or stuck at lights etc.

Auto Open opens all the doors once a door is opened from the inside.

Remember you have to do it for each set of keys.

tom

I did not have Auto Open ticked (and I guess all Yetis come delivered thus?) and it drove me absolutely mad when I got out of the car and got to the boot to find it locked! And then I asked the wise one's on here what to do and Auto Open was the answer. Bliss. Guess this is your answer too then Oldstan? I forgot about the subtleties of this option.

Thanks to all. I've ticked the box in question. The proof of the pudding will come on Sunday, at Asda's :)
