Lowering, how much?

Featured Replies

I have a 57 plate 1.9 tdi elegance for which I have just purchased a set of 18 x 8j wheels fitted with 225 40 tyres, i was wanting to know how far I could lower the car using springs so that they look better on the car. I don't want to go mad just make it look good.

some pictures of how it looks now would be useful

lowering with just springs on standard dampers may not give you the best outcome in terms of the ride quality - gettting some matched springs and dampers may be a better solution. there are lots of options out there - check out dpm and the other site sponsors to see what your choices are.

to save you searching, here's the dpm page: http://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/skoda-octavia-1z-06-c-1929_1947.html

coilovers will give you the maximum flexibility in ride height as they are adjustable.

i had some eibach springs fitted just after i got my car - lowers around 20mm - now have some weitec coilovers that can be set anywhere from stock ride height to -40mm.

thanks for your help, I went on the dpmperformance website and found their cheap coilovers JOM I think, does anyone have any experience of these? I am not intending to use these for performance, just to enhance the look of the car. i don't have any photos as yet but will try to get some this weekend

Consider koni fsd's and eibach pro springs. Not the cheapest option but provide a decent drop, ride quality is oem, and handling is greatly improved.

No experience of JOM brand so I can't comment, but you're right - the coilovers would give you the ability to get the "look" you're after. Generally however I think you get what you pay for in this market, ie the more expensive items are normally priced that way for a reason e.g. painted vs. galvanised vs. stailess construction etc.

Damian (DPM) often posts on here so he might along soon to offer his views, or you could PM him or mail via the DPM site. From what i've seen of his posts he's very helpful.

If your mainly lowering for looks then the JOM coilovers are a great option and excellent value for money. Yes they quality isn't as good as the more expensive kits but the price is a lot less and they also come with 2 years warranty.

All depends what you want from the kit and also what your budget is.

I'm sure they'll be a fitting guide somewhere on the forum and the JOM kit is £199.00 inc. VAT and we have one in stock.
