Ford's "slow speed safety system"

Featured Replies

Saw an advert last night, for the first time, about Ford's Low Speed Safety System.

Apparently, for those who haven't seen it yet, if you're trundling along in traffic and the car in front stops suddenly, your car will brake for you.

Can't make my mind up if this is a good thing or not. Will it mean that people will stop paying attention?

Presumably this is a copy of the system Volvo have had for some time?

Would have thought it was the same system

Is that the one that crashed head on while filming for the media....:giggle:

Considering Ford have recently (last year) sold Volvo after 11 years of ownership I think that is a pretty safe bet.

IMO it will lead to (even more) sloppy/lazy driving

I agree with the sloppy driving, as people will think, that they dont need to bother braking as the car will do it for them.

Does anyone know that if this does brake the car for you will it stall id you dont press the clutch ?

That's the one.

Fortunately the production version works a bit better. :D

Mercedes have had a system like that for a while as part of the Distronc Plus package, think it is called pre-safe, actually works really well and it does seem to work in an emergency situaion and Distronic is awesome on the motorways all you've got to do is steer and it will follow the car in front at a safe distance.

That's the one which when it was being demo'd the driver forgot to turn the system on and drove into the back of the car in front, was on Top Gear if i remember.
