Coilovers and tyre wear?

Featured Replies

I'm at the point where I'm ready to fit the KW V1 coilover kit that I picked up recently, but I'm starting to have second thoughts.

I do 20k miles a year and I'm worried that I'll eat tyres at a dramatic rate, due to uneven wear, if I lower by more than about 40mm - 50mm?

can anyone who's running low on coilovers give me some feedback on your tyre wear situation please?

Many thanks.

i had coilovers fitted a while back with about a 45mm drop and had tyres fittied all round a week or two ago, when i got the old ones off i realised how bad they were, inside front edges were bald, the rest of the tyre was just below the legal limit and i couldnt have covered much more than a 1000 or so miles on the coilovers, had the alignment done and it was out a good bit so hoping that helps, would be interesed to see if anyone else had issues and the traking solved it? it stopped me from putting periellis on the car so running some federals (impressed)

ive got coilovers on,put new tyres on when they were fitted, mines down as far as they will go and the tyres lasted me 6000 mile, down to the wire on the inside.i was running a soft compound tyre.

jst put 2 new tyres on today before international

This is the sort of thing I'm worried about! , how are the rears doing?

Many thanks.

Ok, cheers. was this just the fronts, or are the rears similar?

Just lowered on Eibachs, mine wore out the inner edges 1-3mm before the outers of the front tyres. Next time around I had the tracking done and that seems to have done the trick. Last set swapped out had worn more evenly.

It's the camber which ends up a mile out when lowering and its this what wears the inside edges. Lower you go worse it will be. Just stuck to a nice modest 25mm drop me happy all round.

I'm guessing the Camber is difficult, if not impossible to dial back to standard?

seems overkill fitting the KW's for a minimal drop.

Mine is quite low on the front and the inside wears faster than the rest of the tyre but not by an excessive amount.

When I first got the car the front was almost wound right down and it used to eat tyres but since lifting it up and having the console bushes done and tracking it's a hell of a lot better :)

Rear is as low as it will go and both tyres wear evenly.

I've been doing roughly 20k a year and a pair of toyos on the front would last about 10k and could get a full years use if not more from the rears.

Depends how you drive it though.

rears were fine, yeah as mentioned its the camber which cant be adjusted, saying that mine only shown that the front leftcamber was out, i have a bush away there which would be to blame?
