Air in brakes? HELP

Featured Replies

I changed my rear brake pipes on my occy vrs 1.8T(clipped to rear beam). I Think I have air in the system as pedal is very spongy and brakes bearly work :'( . Also the pedal moves way further down before anything happens? I used a pressure bleeder(sealey like eezibleed)and the rubber seal on the cap dropped off as I was putting it on the res and I didnt notice :'( . Started bleeding and checked level to find fluid everywhere,WOOPS. What could I do to cure the problem? I need my car back on the road soon as poss. Is there a special procedure? Please someone help

You'll need to bleed the system again including the 2 bleed nipples on the master cylinder. If the master cylinder went dry you'll have to bleed the ABS pump using VAGCOM too.

Can anyone tell me the correct procedure as i used the usual method furthest first etc. Do i do the brakes then master cylinder then the clutch? Then do the ABS last? Thanks

Bleed the master cylinder 1st then furthest away from master cylinder etc. ABS with VAGCOM last. If you have a good clutch pedal leave it alone.

cheers paul, very helpful bloke

Its worth tapping the rear brake hoses while you bleed them. I had to change the rear pipes on mine, and I had a spongy pedal until I did this and a few bubbles came out. Amazed how much difference a couple of bubbles makes.

I have re bled brakes, master cylinder first then usual method then clutch. Seems a bit better than it was but when i tried to bleed the ABS, VAGCOM was coming up bleed front brakes etc? Press pedal? Do i ignore this? Pedal still seems to bite further down?

You are supposed to follow the VAGCOM ABS bleed procedure exactly as it instructs you to.

these and the mk 4 golfs can be a nightmare to bleed i have seen ones just in for brake fluid changes and end up waisting time tring to get the pedal back

even my local vw dealer has issues they just leave there machine on them for hours recycling the fluid in them untill the get a pedal
