Purchasing A Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi guys and girls just joined and looking for some advice.

Currently looking for a fab vrs and have a budget of 4000k, i have seen one on ebay that i love the look of but it has a few things i am a bit warry about, first off the link for it is bellow

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2003-SKODA-FABIA-VRS-BLACK-REMAPPED-180BHP-FSH-VGC-/140567277474?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D878361771813987941

The most pressing thing for me is that it has been mapped, I have heard that this has a major toll on the clutch, the guy says he has replaced the clutch but I dont want this to be something i have to worry about.

Also the other thing is the Milage do you think that this will turn up a few issues?

any other advice about it or other fabia's would be extremely useful.

Also and this is the childish part, my mate has a Civic type R how close performance wise are the fabia vsr we often go out driving i want to be able to keep pace if he decides to go for it.

Many thanks for your help guys

Ideally you want to get an un-modded one and do it yourself, so that you know it has been carried out correctly but if the remap has been carried out by a reputable outfit like jabbsport, shark performance, awsome gti etc (there's a list of site sponsors) I wouldn't worry and a replaced clutch suggests a clued up owner (if not replaced out of necessity), but caveat emptor.

As for the mileage, there are quite a few folk on here with very high miles and no real problems, obviously lower is better, and for your budget I think you can get a bit lower. However, if you're prepared to wait and add about £500 more, then you'll be looking at roughly half the mileage you are now (that's buying private).

Finally, street racing and other assorted tales of highway heroism are generally frowned upon here, that said: a standard vRS won't be any match for a type-r, a remapped one will give as good as it gets in a straight line but once v-tec (y0!) kicks in a type-r should pull away, on twisties a vRS won't see which way a type-r went....BUT...there's quite a few heavily sorted vRS's on here that would skelp a type-r's bum and send it on its way.

Simple answer to ctr... No chance

Cheers for the advice will bide my time a bit and wait for another motor to come along in my budget. Am in no imediate hurry for the car so can wait around a bit, still not 100% on what to get right now the fabia is the strongest contender.

£4m to spend on a vRS - you can have mine for £3,999,999.

Get the car remapped and you won't be too far behind CTR's. When I had just a map I kept up with them.

MOD EDIT, See helpful post below.

wouldnt go anywhere near any modded car , get an unmodded one and do it yourself,,,, unless you know the person you are buying it off and are certain that it has been looked after.

by own admission it has big gaps in service history

no oil change between 44k and 65k and no oil change between 65k and 96k

photographed in a service area car park

mobile number only

anyone must by barking mad to even think about buying that thing.

I would be a bit worried about 5 previous owners. Why is the current owner selling after owning just for a few months.

Well it did have a Cambelt and full service 72k miles (8/6/09), however that is 12k overdue! Cambelts are due 60k or 4 years, so should have been done before the 65k at the 2007 service.
