Gear selector shaft. . . .

Featured Replies

Just got the truck up on ramps to have a look underneath, to have a look. My gear selector shaft seal is leaking, but the selector shaft seems to be hanging on on its last legs (arms?) I guess there is supposed to be some play? Mine is to the point of rattling like a goodun! Should this be quite a 'tight' linkage? All the gears select without too much problem. Can I make this much better with a repair kit or should I get a goodun from a scrap yard?

i seem to remember that jorily sell a kit of parts to fix these, have a look on his website... personally i wouldn't bother with a scrapper because most of the time the car is dumped onto the ground (they are at my local yard) straight onto the underside of the car and it busts them up really good

there should be a little bit of play in the gear linkage, but it comes down to 'experience' of knowing if it's too wobbly or not so to speak... although if it's wobbling round like a donkeys knob in the wind it's fair to say it needs re-bushing or some TLC
