Worth buying fmic

Featured Replies

Hy,

i am currently driving my VRS maped at around 172HP and 400NM of torqe. I am thinking of buying Forge fmic for my furby. Is it worth? Is there any turbo lag with this fmic? Would be any increase of Power?

TBH unless you are going for 200+bhp with a hybrid set up I wouldn't bother.

I ran similar numbers on my fabia for 100k+ miles with the standard SMIC and it was fine. Yes I suffered heatsoak on some occasions but not to the extent that I felt I needed an FMIC. (well maybe once on a disused airfield in CZ up against Tigger in a drag race) :giggle:

You will not notice any power gains from an FMIC, all it will do is help maintain lower inlet temps for longer.

If you haven't already, spend the £600 on a rear ARB, and some suspension or brakes

Unless you live in Spain or other southern european country, not a lot of point at this stage. Unless you're trackdaying or running the car on WOT (Wide Open Throttle) for extended periods.

To be honest guys I had my Ibiza FR 1.9TDI at those kind of BHP/Torque levels and during winter is was not an issue kept just about cool enough :) But when summer came the temps were really high, fitted the Forge FMIC and it made such a difference, it was much more responsive, held power for much longer, which was very noticable when side by side to a friends car that was same spec but with stock cooler.

So in short Winter.... don't worry too much!

Summer, your car will still work but not as good as what it can with a cooler.

Also, never really noticed an increase in lag and spike BHP/Torque figures will be about the same but much futher up the revs the one with the cooler will make more.

They're not so much for power increase but they do help keep the power and performance constant.

If you can afford one then go for it

I could put my remapped one into limp mode if i hammered it on a b road for a couple of miles

And i had a good remap of 173bhp from a reputable company
