Octavia Greenline normal MPG

Featured Replies

I have searched on forum and no results against greenline mpg so I appol if ive missed it in the past. I am thinking to the future and have decided I will prob go for a Octavia Greenline as my next car maybe an estate (and a pipe and slippers) when the VRS is a year or 2 old I will have low miles still and will see how it will work trading against new and up to 6 month old ones nation wide.

To the guys who have them the claimed MPG of 73 ish combined is this valid or wildly hopeful I am well up for the savings in diesel against the drop in power I just bought a ZZR1400 with a power commander that will satisfy the power I think more than the VRS ever will B)

ps to that note if I sell in a year my VRS will have about 6000 miles on it and under 15k at 2 years anyone interested around then keep an eye out for my posts :D

Since all the car manufacturers have become adept at maximizing the official EU fuel consumption tests, I would subtract between 15 and 20% offen the claimed combined figures.

I seem to have settled down to about 50mpg outta the 1.6Cr DSG compared to the 61? mpg combined figure.

Which for a smaller lighter sleeker lower profile car is NOT an advance on a 1998 vintage Ford Galaxy. Which managed about 47.5 overall, iirc, summer & winter

So much for progress.

Cheers

dieseldogg you were my MPG idol what happened I get 54mpg on a long run in the VRS remapped at least your tempting me to hold on to it :D

Sigh,

Since my 18 year old daughter properly "wiped my arse" on the Galaxy mpg stakes I huffed & gave up.

Anyway I suppose I am driving the Octavia faster than I drove the ould Galaxy, simply because I can.

I have just turned 12,000 miles since 24th Sept so say doing about about 16,000 a year.

A shocking amount of this milage is between home and work, a sub 4 mile single trip 6 times a day.

The engine rarely gets properly warmed up.

But OK I do do a wheen o longer runs some weekends,and/but occassional trailer towing thrown in, and boy o boy does that punish the mpg's.

The trip computer is accurate within a couple of % and currently reading 51mpg odd.

So I reckon 50mph mixed driving.

I could achieve the claimed 60 plus combined but only on a longer Sunday afternoon sight seeing run, with a lighter right foot.

Cheers

Ps

Of course her not be properly run in yet.......... plus iffen I washed her she would be slipperier through the air.

And I think I have a soft tyre.

If you are only going to cover 15k miles in two years, what is the point swapping to a more economical model?

You already have a performance diesel, you will likely end up spending money to change to a less powerful, worse looking, less-well equipped version of what you already drive.

And for what? To get a 5-10mpg improvement?

Even if you got 60mpg out of the Greenline, at todays petrol prices that would save you about £280 a year against the 45mpg you are getting now (assuming 8000 miles in a year).

Not worth it in my opinion.
