My X-reg 1.4 16v Fabia has developed a strange problem that I would love to pick your brains on.

Most of the times the car drives just fine but occasionally when I try to speed up the engine revs up from 4,000 RPM to 6,000 RPM without the corresponding acceleration. A friend has suggested it could be the clutch starting to warn me that I should do something about it. Any ideas?

I have asked around and have been quoted about £500 including labourt which, despite living in London, sounds expensive! Do you think it would make sense to order the clutch kit from someone like Jorily and then have it fitted by a local garage?

Where about a in London are you. I'm in south London ill hopefully be taking a trip up to unit 18 some time this month too swap my gearbox. Been quoted £120 to do the work.
