Fuelly thing below has four partial fill ups so is miles out at the moment

I'd sure hope so!!!!!!! 30mpg is even worse than my DSG!!! These online fuel aps all state you have to do full to full for them to work.

I was only getting about 500 to a tank for the first 15k or so then noticed it going up and now regularly get 580+ and my driving style hasn't changed. It still only suggests a range at full tank of 640 though.

The point about the range thing is that it constantly adjusts. It gives a reading depending on your current consumption, so if you fill up when you've recently been cruising along at a constant 50 (e.g) you'll get a huge range readout, but if you fill up when you've been stop/start in town you'll see rather less. The prediction will change as your driving changes: Drive slowly and carefully to a filling station and fill up. Read the prediction. Come out and thrash the beastie for 10 miles ... reread the prediction and you'll see it has fallen by more than 10 miles. (Or do the reverse, thrash it before the filling station and drive it slowly afterwards. It's never going to accurately tell you how many miles to the next fill up, it's just general guidance.

1.4 TSI, you.. sorry I, struggle to get 40mpg.... even an M1/M6 trip was 39 point something.... 20 mile Journey of mixed roads at a slow speed - about 38.. if you want to mix it with the traffic, then more like 35 mpg.

Thats the first 1000 miles, I am hoping for better as the engine settles in..

But so quiet..... B)

(1.4 TSI - only model I could get, the one in the showroom)

interesting comments about fuel consumption.

I now have 16 months of data of fuel use and what has interested me about my own varying MPG results is that the usage during cold weather is markedly different too that in warmer weather.

I recall someone commenting on this in another thread ages ago.

During the three months from December 1st to end February my average was 41.7, and my current 3 month average is 45.1. My driving is pretty consistent and consists of decent A roads, and crappy C roads, one or two slaloms around collies and probably 2 trips up the M6 to Kinross from Brecon. And my consumption in April was again up around 44.7 - and April was really warm!!

I was surprised to see that the variation was as pronounced.

George, I shall check mine in comparison.

I posted about the difference in temperature previously. My daily commute in a diesel gives me 4mpg less during the winter months - 45mpg to 49mpg during the warmer months in fact. Ive always put it down to the garages switching to winter diesel mix and the fact the engine takes a little longer to come up to optimal operating temperature.

Eccles, I reckon those might be the dates the pics were posted to flickr?

No! Flickr picks this data from the exif data in the jpg file. It shows the date the photo was taken and the camera type. But this is by the by!

The main problem with the pics is that the op is trying to show the fuel gauge movement over 104 miles and though the trip shows an increase of 104 miles the increase in the odometer is 1,605 miles. The date difference is added proof that the op has, perhaps, posted incorrect pics to prove his point.

Just an update ......240 motorway miles and the odd running round the side roads in Cornwall yesterday resulted in 52.6 mpg on the maxidot

Now I just gotta find the real one, ooooh heck. Apologies all - I did not intend to deceive you in the slightest.

Why did you use... mpg??!!!

In Ro, we have ... l/100km.

Hadn't really noticed the change with temperature, but my overall average (since January) is similar to yours; round about the 45mpg mark.

In terms of distances and speed the UK still uses imperial measurements. We have the strange situation where for the last 30-40 years our children have been taught metric measurements but the UK as a whole still deals in imperial. We buy our fuel in litres now, that took a while to come, but everyone talks in terms of mpg still. Road signs still state miles, not kilometres. We still talk in terms of mph not kph. Very confusing, sorry.

My best yet - over the last 2 months, using Tesco Momentum 99, now averaging 48mpg on our 1.2 TSI DSG.

Best yet is today, journey from London to Durham - 51.5 mpg! Average speed was 51 mph including driving in central London. Was averaging around 65-70 mph on motorway apart from average speed zones.

PS range when filled up is 660 miles (but how true is that!?!)

My best yet (or was it worst) 29.5mpg average, trip range was 360 miles with a range of 5 miles left....Towing the 'van is not the best way for getting good fuel economy.

Why is it when you want a petrol station, there aren't any around? I drove right through Reading today coming home and I did not pass one petrol station....I did see some but not on my road.
