It's the 44 miles in 44 minutes that impresses me ... clearly no speed cameras on that route. :giggle:

Speed cameras?? What, at 0430??

Average speed 58mph, but I doubt I went above 65 for very long. Actually goes to show how easy it is to "make progress" in the Yeti.

56.9mpg! It can't all be down hill in Wales.

Out of interest how many miles has your monster done.It must be a lot looser than mine at 7500miles.:smirk:

Impressive figures but can`t see the DSG getting much over 50 mpg even if trated very gently.

Current Octavia will do around 53mpg if I do a steady 60ish and the bosses old Fabia will do 60mpg on a good open run at under 70.All about being gentle and light on the accelerator pedal and the gear changes

Hope its a bit cooler in the box this morning Graham. Bet you see some great wildlife en route to work, biggest menace around here are sheep especially when its foggy as they are the same colour.

Just Googled Llanidloes and sounds a really nice place and the website looks very interesting are you getting your Yeti outfit on for Fridays fancy dress

Cheers

Peter.

I have seen figures around the 50-60mpg mark in my CR140DSG, but only on the flat, no stopping and constant 30mph for about 5 miles max.

In the 'real' world low 40's is the best I can get. I came down to Newquay from London via M25/M3/A303/A30, which for the most part is 70mph speed limit, 270 miles in 4 1/2 hours and I stuck to the speed limit where possible, and only achieved 39mpg with a tank range around the 460 mile mark. Other than dropping the speed to 50-60mph, which would have increased the journey time by about an hour. I arrived at midnight, travelling during the evening, and left mid week.

Wet and windy when I passed through a month or so back.

Bob,

Powys has no fixed cameras, only mobile vans and the earliest they go out is 0730, plus they publish where they are going to be in the local paper, so I don't need to worry. And to be honest I am still within the limits most of the time. It is also useful being known by the local Inspector as one of the local "blue light" trained volunteers!

bilun,

It's just gone over to 24000, so nicely "loose" now.

Maffa,

Llani's annual p**s-up and madness night!! I should have been one of the stewards, but have now got to go to a meeting in London and won't get back until about 10, and so will have to do a couple of hours then!! I normally end up with the local Inspector, so it isn't too bad.

It's mostly bunnies at the moment, one of which chipped my front bumper last week! We get the occasional deer trackside, but nothing interesting out of the 'box. We back onto Ludlow Racecourse so plenty of "fillies" on race days. (both senses!!)

Air con is keeping a nice constant 19 today, but S & T keep wandering in and out!!

Got a 2.0 TDI 110 that has just passed 20k miles.

Downloaded an app for my phone to track my consumption and the last two ratings for full tanks have been 50.43 (Cambridge and back in a day plus a day or so of normal driving 598 miles) and 48.62 (16 days worth of normal commuting and pottering around - 580+ miles). Was really disappointed by the second figure as thought I'd done better than that. Only topped up 54 litres in both cases.

Had a quick look on the Honest John real MPG page and this seems to be a lot higher than they have on there. How are others getting on?

The problem with comparing people's fuel consumption is that in fact there are too many variables to get a true comparison. My figures are early morning, when it is known that consumption is better, on empty roads, at an almost constant speed, plus because of past training I drive very "defensively" so don't brake or accellerate harshly, use the geography of the road to slow or speed up, and "read" the road well in front. As an example, on a good morning I can do the whole journey and only touch the brake pedal less than 20 times, and 6 of those are a major junctions or lights.

Funnily enough the journey back from here NEVER gives me such good consumption. Perhaps I want to get home?!?

Nice one, but don't try it in North Wales, they hide in bushes and behind walls, our ex chief constable admitted that he likes nothing better on his day off other than lying in a ditch with a speed cam. LOL. He was known in the force by his own staff as the mad muller of the speed taliban :giggle: I kid you not.

I think he's gone back to england now

All said in good humor of course, bless him.

Interesting post this.

As the next post shows I was looking to get 714 miles from a tankful, after 100 miles.

Interesting post this.On my return from Kinross near Perth, heading for Builth Wells south of Llanidloes I brimmed the tank at Dunfermline Asda, being cheapest I could see.I then decided to do the scenic route as it was a beautiful day and I had bags of time. i went a route I'd never taken before, ready to enjoy the scenery. As it happened, because I was enjoying some spectacular views, particularly the one between Heriot and Innerleithen looking back to the Firth of Forth and across to Kirkcaldy in Fife, as well as East to the Bass Rock and West to the Ochils, I drove like the proverbial old fart that i am.The route is pretty average in terms of road quality and inclines and declines, turns and twists, though some of it is single track. It is a most beautiful way to beat all the roadworks near Glasgow!!You can imagine the surprise I got when I turned the Maxidot to the appropriate 'page' and saw these results. This is for a 170 Elegance, with a bit of luggage but not loads, serviced as per the book and new-ish tyres fitted. The figures speak for themselves, despite the fact that this is the Maxidot recording, which was pretty consistent all the way.

Interestingly, as a rule of thumb I reckon that each large line in the fuel gauge represents 75 miles covered, so that would equal 300 on a half tank.  In this case, slightly UNDER the first segment should have been about 50 miles, and not 104!!

Just to add a technical note. The air at 4.30 will be cold and so will be denser. This will give more O2 through the turbo and a better burn and better mpg. The warmer air in the afternoon will have the opposite effect.

OR you just dawdle to work and rush home for your tea!!!

I always liked night driving 'cos the cars were always more responsive.

I don't want to rain on a parade or anything but the range figure on mine is a load of old tosh. Mine also starts off when full showing 620-640 miles and barely moves for quite some time. The fuel light always comes on between 420-440 miles driven however, the range then shows around 60-80 miles left. My driving style and journeys taken barely change and the info given by Maxidot is pretty consistent. I'm up to 16,500 miles now.

I'm afraid my belief in the accuracy of either the range figure or mpg on Maxidot is pretty low. It is a guide but not to be taken literally or get excited about.

I took it that Freshacre was really going by the fuel guage and ignoring the items you have mentioned. Now, of course, it is highly possible that that is as unreliable as the rest?

I find the range figure to be fairly accurate, however I ignore it and fill up either when the needle reaches the red or the light comes on.

Not really fussed at all how "accurate" it is. I'm not in the slightest interested in the minutiae of how many miles and yards I get - it is merely an indication of how economically one is driving, and on this occasion I was pleased to see some figures that I did not expect to see - a postulated mileage of over 700?? amazing.

I was amazed today.

Drove back from Newquay to Croydon. left Newquay at 6:45pm and arrived home at 12:10am. Driving time was 5 Hours & 8 minutes.

maxidot showed 273 miles, 53mph average speed (drove like miss daisy at 60mph ish the whole way....) maxidot reading was 46.9mpg. It took me 1/2 an hour more to get home over that distance and fuel consumption was about 10mph better..... (last tankful gave 48.4mpg on the maxidot...not to enter the data in my signature....)

I filled up when I got home and I now have a reading of 640 miles range. Not bad for the CR140DSG.....Best ever for me.

I was only getting about 500 to a tank for the first 15k or so then noticed it going up and now regularly get 580+ and my driving style hasn't changed. It still only suggests a range at full tank of 640 though.

  • 4 weeks later...

260 mile round trip today on mainly Motorway but one third on N roads (equivalent to A) and maxidot displayed 59.9 mpg at end of journey.

Had snapped maxidot readings at 238 miles and it was showing 59.2. Remaining miles were on N road max 100kph or 62mph so a little more economical than 120kph Motorway

I'm confused! What are you trying to show here?

In the first picture your odometer reads 20049 and the trip 0.3miles

In the second picture supposedly taken 104 miles later the odometer reads 21654 miles with the trip showing 104.1

The flickr caption to the 1st pic says it was taken on 2nd April

The Flickr caption on the 2nd pic says it was taken on 24th April

Have you posted the wrong photos?

Eccles, I reckon those might be the dates the pics were posted to flickr?

On a recent trip to Wales I filled to the brim at the start and drove a total of 595 miles on a tankful, which I was very impressed with.

The maxidot showed a ranged of 30 miles to empty so if I was brave enough I might have got it over 600.

I wonder just how far you can drive from when the light comes on till the car actually stops?

I filled mine up last night when the range had been on 0 for about 5 miles.

The trip distance since the last fill up was 470 miles and the tank brimmed at 55.63 litres of diesel.

The tank holds 60 litres I believe so there was still about a gallon of fuel left.:smirk:
